‼️One of the things I hear a lot from parents is that their teenage children spend more time in their bedroom.
‼️While this is developmentally appropriate as they begin to move towards more autonomy; if we don’t create a space that is inclusive of their interests, needs and sense of belonging this behaviour can become more unhealthy.
🌟INVITE our teenager into a connection and environment that they can enjoy and includes something of interest to them.
🌟They also developmentally need to feel connected and want to belong, have the conversation and see what they would like or need.

‼️Modern technology has so many wonderful and educational aspects; as well as fun; information & ways of keeping in touch. However it also has many, many negative & dangerous aspects. ⛔️

Social Media is one aspect of modern technology that has increasingly negative impacts. 😢
Those who use it too much almost always know they are , but don’t always make the changes necessary… “as it’s the most convenient way to “brain drain!” “ 👎🏻

‼️Social media for a lot of people is not about connecting with others; in reality it’s about disconnecting not only with others , but with yourself!

loss of the old or excitement of the new?

A bit of letting go?
A bit of fear?

🌟If we dismiss our own feelings or get flooded with them ; we deny our children the space & permission to have their feelings!

🌟However, as a former secondary school teacher & now as an adolescent mental health practitioner I have a deeper understanding of the importance of allowing young people to make their choices.

A healthy sleep routine is something I have always struggled with since childhood.🙈I make very conscious efforts to try to enhance my quality of sleep, so when I do eventually go to bed my senses will be nourished. 😴🌱🌟Here are some sensory ideas that might be helpful: 👀Sight: Blackout curtainsSleep maskColours in your bedroom (bed linen:pillow cases)Declutterred roomDim lightingNo phones🎧Sound: White noise machineEarplugsMeditationMusic that soothesHealing FrequenciesAudio story 🙌Touch: Comfortable bedding & pajamasSupportive mattress and pillowsTexture of pillowcasesCool or Warm roomWeighted blanket 👃Smell: Calming scents in the form of essential oils A diffuser Scented candles Natural sleep sprays👅Taste: Avoid heavy tasting food or drinks A sleep herbal teaA light snack or a small glass of warm milk‼️Our sensory needs can be consistent or may vary over time. ‼️People-pleasers often struggle with an inner voice that is built on fear & self-criticism. Fear of change, fear of doing the wrong thing, fear of upsetting someone and as a result constantly second-guessing yourself, worrying about what others think & doubting yourself. 😖

Overcome Over-Apologising:
1.🌟Pay attention to how often and why you apologise. Keeping a journal might help identify patterns.
2.🌟Pause and Reflect: Before apologising, ask yourself if it is necessary and appropriate. Consider if you are genuinely at fault or if it’s a reflexive response.
3.🌟Use Alternatives: Instead of apologising, try stating your intentions. For example, say “Thank you for your patience” instead of “I’m sorry for being late.”
4.🌟Learn to communicate your needs and boundaries clearly and confidently without feeling the need to apologise:
💡Instead of “I’m sorry for taking up your time,” say “Thank you for listening.”
💡Instead of “I’m sorry for being late,” say “Thank you for waiting for me.”

🌟🌟By becoming more mindful of when and why you apologise, and by practicing alternative responses, you can reduce the habit of over-apologising and improve your self-confidence and communication skills. 🌟❣️
