The CRU is recruiting for an appointment to the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Board for Non-Domestic Gas Works.
The function of the board is to review and assess:
-Professional qualification(s)
-Additional post-qualifying education and training
-Professional work experience.
The board must examine each application in accordance with the process determined by the CRU.

A customer contacted the CRU noting that they had been charged on a small business tariff for a domestic house for the past 20 years. The customer applied to have this changed to domestic, and to have it backdated. They also sought a refund for the difference in cost during this time.
The energy supplier in question did not uphold the customer’s complaint and referred the customer to the CRU. The CRU investigated this case and did not uphold the customer’s complaint.

Your supplier will need regular readings from your meter to calculate your bills.
If they don't receive these readings, they will estimate your usage. This means your bill may be too high or low.

Aoife MacEvilly, CRU Commissioner, will be discussing 'A regulatory framework for a secure, decarbonised energy system' at this year's Energy Ireland Conference. The conference will look at the developments that will decarbonise Ireland’s increasingly integrated energy system. The event will bring together key energy sector stakeholders to discuss and debate the key drivers of the energy transition and energy security.
Our Energy Demand Strategy will support electricity customers to move their consumption to times that will reduce carbon emissions, even as the expected energy demand increases in Ireland over the next number of years. This will provide a better pathway to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with the legally binding carbon sectoral emission limits. This recent consumer case study relates to a domestic electricity consumer, who experienced poor customer service relating to a legacy energy account.
A customer contacted the CRU as their supplier, without permission, charged a sum of €2,274.73 to their bank account. The customer was told by the supplier that it related to a legacy energy account.
The CRU upheld the customer’s complaint based on a number of key points and directed the supplier to award the customer compensation.

We know that many customers find it difficult to understand their electricity bills. Understanding your energy bill is an important part of being .
Suppliers must include certain information on your electricity bill to make it clear and easy to understand. Not all suppliers’ bills will have the information in the same place as this sample bill so always double check your details are correct

We have published our Customer Care Annual Report has been published. The CRU monitors the number of complaints and contacts involving energy suppliers and network operators. The CCT received 31,517 contacts in 2023, a 1% increase from 2022.
Last year we received:
📩22,526 emails
📞6,864 phone calls
📨368 letters and
💻1,759 web queries.
Common complaints across the energy sector included billing, smart metering, quality of supply (particularly outages) and the allocation of electricity credits. Common water complaints related to issues around connections, leaks, wastewater and accounts.
The CRU provides a free complaint resolution service for customers who have submitted a complaint to their supplier, network operator or Uisce Éireann and are unhappy with the outcome. We will deal with all complaints as quickly as possible and provide you with an outcome that is clear and easy to understand.
