Ever wondered what yin yoga is all about?

The nutshell of yin yoga 👇🏼

This is a different type of yoga that focuses on stretching and opening the joints, as well as relaxing the body. Yin yoga involves holding poses for a long time. Slow, steady movements can help to relax your muscles and joints. After you try this type of yoga, you’ll feel yourself stretch out and relax.

What happens in the body after yin yoga?

Yin reduces physical tension in the body
Yin yoga can be thought of as the deep tissue massage of yoga. The poses you’ll move through in a yin class help to release physical tension and unblock stagnant energy being held in the body.

Yin yoga is for everyone and all levels.

Connective tissue responds best to a slow, steady load, which is why we hold the poses for longer. If you gently stretch connective tissue by holding a yin pose for a long time in this way, the body will respond by making it a little longer and stronger - which is exactly what you want.

Yoga Nidra literally means “yogic sleep.” It is an ancient meditation technique
where practitioners enter a deeper state of conscious relaxation, moving awareness from the external world to the internal.
Yogic sleep brings us to a state of deep relaxation, verging on sleep, where our senses, intellect, and mind can completely let go and rest. In this dreamless sleep, we are free from the concepts of time, space, and reason. When this happens, brain activity reduces and the body goes into a healing state, removing toxins at a cellular level and refreshing the mind. As a result, 1 hour of Yoga Nidra meditation is said to offer the same benefit as 4 hours of sleep.

NEW WEEKEND GENTLE YOGA CLASS 🧘‍♀️

This gorgeous new flow class starts Saturday 2nd November with the very talented
So truly blessed to have Liz back teaching in the studio.

Liz Kane has been practising yoga for over 10 years and qualified in Hot Yoga/ Hatha in 2019.
She has taught both styles over the last 5 years. Liz truly believes in the healing of yoga and credits her practise with getting her through heartache, mental health issues and injury.
This nourishing and soothing slow flow class blends breath with movement at a gentle pace, allowing deeper explorations of the poses. It is suitable for beginners, seasoned yogis or anyone looking for a calming stretching of body and mind.
Perfect Saturday start to your weekend.

Sandra is a very patient teacher who encourages students to challenge themselves. Her goal is that people will leave the class feeling better than when they came in and they feel like they’ve achieved something. Despite a class environment, individual attention will still be provided to all.

This class is tailored towards seniors but is also geared towards anyone looking for a gentle mat work class to build strength, flexibility and mobility.

Our next sound bath is one with a difference - a Yin Yoga practice with a sound bath for ultimate relaxation. Dani will take you through a session to release any tension, before we settle in with our warm blankets for a sound bath like no other. You will float out the door feeling relaxed in body and mind! You can book in the normal way online or via your app - just hop to the 20th Oct to put your name down for the session.

Yogalates “not a fancy word, it’s a thing” really..

The Solomon method created by Louise Solomon.
Louise Solomon first developed Yogalates organically for her own body. Her experience of injury in the Yoga room as a fledgling student led her to the Pilates room that led her back to the Yoga room. With a fundamental knowledge of core and function that had her yearning for more, her body and mind had experienced an awakening that was unprecedented at that time. Louise then trained in Ashtanga Yoga full time for one year and naturally applied her Pilates training when the birth of Yogalates began.

Working from the inside out, Yogalates improves body awareness and alignment to help develop proper movement patterns that we use in our daily lives, and focuses on a practice designed for modern day bodies.
Designed to awaken and strengthen the subtle and structural core muscles through Pilates based exercises while incorporating the Asana (postures), philosophy and wisdom of Yoga.

Resistance bands are used in an array of exercises that stretch every section of the feet, ankles, legs and hips with rotations and resistance (which replicate some of the exercises we know from reformer Pilates machines). These help open the hip joints as well as warm the thigh muscles. The use of the bands also creates a suction effect deep inside the joint that enhances the secretion of synovial fluid and is a great preparation for the complex standing poses of Asana.

Every class is different and has amazing benefits for mind, body and soul.

Classes are suitable for all levels of fitness and run weekly in my studio in omeath.

2 Sunrise Yogalates classes at 6:30am
1 Evening class on Thursdays at 6:15pm

NEW CLASS ALERT FOR OUR AMAZING SENIORS

Please share far and wide if you can.
I’ve an incredible teacher coming in the end of October time to teach a gentle mat work Pilates class for senior citizens.

Class is suitable for anyone looking a gentle class to build some strength, movement and mobility in the body also, maybe after injury or sickness.
No big movement from floor to standing as all postures and exercises will be done on the mat.

Pilates for seniors is fantastic. Staying active and keeping fit is important for every body but especially for seniors. Many forms of exercise can be hard going on the bodies of older adults. Pilates is a great low impact exercise to keep active whilst reducing risk of injury.

Start date is still to be decided and class will run late morning times..

This class is starting with all the basics, everything from breath-work, mindfulness and movement, each one of us are built differently and I believe it’s not a one size fits all in the yoga world, not every BODY should do all the poses a certain way, my style is functional yoga, for EVERYBODY.

I’ve created this term to allow for each person to feel into the poses and see how their body responds, and then give them additional poses if the body doesn’t respond well.

I’ve had some incredible feedback from my September ladies and they are all very Eager to keep learning this way, so if u want to join our yoga class then please come along I’d love to share this incredible way of life with you 🙏

This Wednesday’s FEMALE ONLY dance class is about learning to dance with a cane.

Zero dance experience required. All ages, all shapes and sizes really welcome.

Wear whatever clothing you want (gym gear, leggings and Tshirt, a dress, doesn’t matter). Shoes either trainers or small heels.
Canes will be provided..

€6 per class 6.45-7.45pm

Ladies… We have a New Dance Class with a Difference in the Dolmen Centre

WEDNESDAYS at 6.45pm 1 hour dance class with a difference…This class is about learning a set dance routine to a chosen song. It's for women of all ages, all shapes, all sizes having fun together, a bit of a laugh and engaging the brain to remember easy dance steps and learning to move your body.

No previous dance experience is required for the class, and we promise you will have a laugh, loose a few inches, and learn a few WICKED moves…

🩸WHY WE NEED TO SWEAT DAILY🩸in Ayurveda, there are seven tissue layers known as the dhatus, which together create our entire physical structure. These seven tissues work interdependently with one another to create an intelligent and interconnected system of overall health.
The rakta dhatu is our blood 🩸
“Rakta” translates to “reddening,” “colored,” or “impassioned.” Rakta dhatu is our vital blood serum, which consists of protein and red blood cells. It is the fuel that governs our blood flow, carrying oxygen and liquid nutrients to the tissues, glands, and organs, helping them stay healthy and functioning well.
This flow of blood is responsible for our very existence, including the maintenance of our body systems and how we get oxygen to the brain so we can think and take action in our lives.

If our blood flow is imbalanced over a long period, we accumulate toxins, called ama, and begin to pump those excess toxins through the blood vessels, veins, and arteries.

When the blood is flowing healthy and strong, it supplies us with a sense of vigor, energy, and strength. These gifts go beyond the health of the physical body, gracing us with charisma, enthusiasm, and passion for life.

So when we workout & sweat we are removing any ama “toxins” from our body through the sweat & when we get the heart racing we are moving the blood all throughout the body revitalising the whole body 👌🏼
Plus it feels SO GOOD, we have more energy feel more vibrant and healthy.

I add pockets of power throughout my Yogalates classes, suitable for all levels, to make sure we get the blood pumping properly and are hearts racing in a safe and mindful way. 🫶🏼

Next up I’ll share some more about the Asthi dhatu “our bones” and why as we age especially we need to add weight into our daily workouts so we can keep our bones strong and healthy for as long as possible 🦴

Each breath is a new beginning. With great faith we take an inhale in and trust that it will nourish us. We let go of the exhalation with great trust that the next inhale will be waiting. Beginning again happens with every breath we take.
September is here, new beginnings, new opportunities, new school starts and maybe some new free time for us mammys?
