Kilgarvan Central School is a mixed primary school situated in the village of Kilgarvan, Co Kerry

Today marks the end of our current academic year. The 6th class also marked their final day in Primary School. All of the school applauded the 6th class pupils as they departed today. We are very proud of you all and we know that a bright future lies ahead for you all.

Detective Garda Denise Moriarty took time out of her busy schedule to carry out a presentation with the 5th & 6th class pupils this morning. The pupils got the opportunity to learn about the work of the Detective Garda, tried on some uniform items & looked at the equipment.
Items included in the presentation were; Water and farm safety, bullying & cyber bullying, road safety and the role of the Garda and Detective Garda in the community.
The pupils were all presented with an Garda Síochana bagpack.

We bid a fond farewell to Danny O'Sullivan as he retired as our distinguished caretaker from our school today. Danny was an integral part of our school for many years and was always most obliging in his role. We wish Danny & his wife Kathleen a happy and long retirement together.
There was a special presentation made to Danny and Kathleen and this was presented to them by their two grandchildren Conor & Nathan.
A cake was also enjoyed by all in our school to mark this very special occasion.
Thank you Danny for your dedication to our school.

We were delighted to welcome some members of the successful Kilgarvan/Kenmare Féile hurling team today & one of their mentors PJ. It was lovely to see our past pupils return to congratulate them as well as our present pupils who played a vital role in the games too.
We also welcomed Noel from Templenoe who was part of the successful team.

5th & 6th class pupils are pictured with their JEP certificates, JEP flag, JEP plaque and also a merit certificate. The pupils were awarded merit certificates in the following categories: Top Teams, Star Submission, Creative Pioneers & Marketing Gurus.
The pupils were awarded these for their excellent product Kilgarvan Keychains. They enjoyed a trip to Airtastic with the profits raised. The children also received their investment money and gave kindly donated the remainder to the school. We are extremely proud of your efforts & generosity.

Congratulations & well done to Niamh, our 6th class pupil who was part of the winning U14 ISG football team who won the Division 1 Shield county final at the weekend.

Some members of the school hurling team were presented with medals and a Shield for winning the East Kerry Mini 7s hurling final in Rathmore in April. Well done to the boys & many thanks to PJ for mentoring the team.

We had a special visit today from Sergeant Jamie Cullen of Kenmare Garda station. Sergeant Cullen spoke to the children about his role in the community, about water & road safety as well as cyber bullying. The children also got the opportunity to try on the Garda uniform & hand cuffs!

The 5th & 6th class pupils were blessed with glorious sunshine for their school tour of Spike Island today. The children did orienteering in groups and enjoyed a historical tour of the island.
It was then off to Mahon Point for some well deserved retail therapy. The children enjoyed some delicious food in the food court after.
A wonderful day was had by all!
The pupils of 1st & 2nd class thoroughly enjoyed their school tour to Crag Caves today.
The children got the opportunity to get a tour of the caves, play in the soft play area and enjoyed a delicious lunch also. 🥳👏
It was a wonderful day out today in Active Kingdom, Castleisland for our Junior & Senior Infant classes school tour.
The children enjoyed lots of various activities & took part in lots of cooperative & fun games.
The bus journey was also enjoyed by all.
We had a special visit from Dara Moynihan & Karena of Killarney Credit Union today.
The 6th class pupils were presented with a Credit Union pack and some treats.
We were delighted to welcome Dara, in particular, a member of the Kerry Senior Football team.

The pupils of 3rd & 4th class had a great day today at the Just4fun camps at MTU Cork. The pupils participated in lots of fun and challenging activities. The children enjoyed some treats on the way home.
It's worthy to note that €46 of the fee paid was donated to Crumlin Children’s Hospital, Dublin.

We had a beautiful Mass celebrating our 6th class graduation today. Many thanks to Fr.Liam for a meaningful ceremony, to the choir and the music group for enriching the celebration.

We were delighted to be joined by the parents & families of the 6th class pupils and refreshments were enjoyed by all afterwards.

Sports Day
We were blessed with glorious sunshine for our Sports day today. The children enjoyed lots of activities including hurling, fundance, playing with the parachute, a trip to the playground as well as different activities at stations in teams.
The children were all treated to an ice cream from Kenmare ice cream.

A great day was had by all.

JEP Tour
The 5th & 6th class pupils travelled to Airtastic in Cork today and had a great time in the inflata park. This was funded by the profits they made from their successful business venture
'Kilgarvan Keychains'.
A great day was had by all.
Huge congratulations to our hurling team on reaching the county final of the Cumann na mBunscol competition on Wednesday last. The team played very well, showed great sportsmanship and narrowly missed out by one point to Killury N.S.
It was a wonderful occasion and a fantastic experience for our hurlers to play at our County grounds in Austin Stack Park.
A huge thanks to PJ for always giving his time to mentor and coach the boys. Míle Buíochas PJ.

Kilgarvan School Coffee Morning
Congratulations and well done to James, Evan, John and Eleanor who represented our school in the Kenmare Primary School Sports on Tuesday last. They were all a credit to their school. Eleanor came 1st in 300m and 3rd in the 60m. Evan placed 3rd in Javelin. All the boys placed well in their other events

The whole school lined out to wish our hurling team the very best of luck in their final later today. We're looking forward to an exciting game of hurling in Tralee later.
