ABOUT YOUR HOSTS - JESSICA KENNEDY AND LENA O’DRISCOLL
Jessica Kennedy -
HOLISTIC HYPNOTHERAPIST, WELLNESS COACH, YOGA AND FITNESS PRACTITIONER
www.hypnotherapywestcork.com
Jessica has combined a successful career as a musician, composer/performer with being a business owner for many years. She has run marathons and fundraised for charities all over the world, from Kenya, to Burundi, to Cornwall (Next one up is Cork City Marathon in June 2022!)..
Jessica has kayaked and swam in oceans and wild rivers, from Mexico to County Clare. She’s been lucky enough to perform with the most amazing artists and healers, everywhere from Irish castles to London churches, Harvard, West Cork cliff tops, and the National Concert Hall.
Some years ago Jessica discovered hypnotherapy, yoga and energy healing. This happened at a fortuitous time in her life when she was searching for answers and inner healing. This process was transformative for her - a learning and sharing path which will continue to evolve .
Jessica says:
“I've always known I was only skimming the surface of what was there if I was ready to understand. Feeling there was so much inner peace, and wisdom to tap into. Once I hit the pause button on my fast-forward life and began this most profound chapter, I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life sharing what I've learned, and continue to learn, with others. Now I work with people all over the world online, and in person, in the mediums of yoga, life coaching, running, nature therapy and hypnotherapy.I have seen so many people overcome personal challenges by using hypnosis to reprogram their subconscious mind, and tuning into themselves, in the wonders of nature. Because of my ongoing training and studies in Yoga and Qi Gong, I am passionate about working with the energy and
healing capacity of our own body as well as our minds, and connecting with the healing that is readily available for us to experience in the great outdoors. “
Jessica’s Qualifications include:Registered Hypnotherapist; Diploma in Hypnotherapy; Diploma in Mind Coaching; Diploma in Online Therapy; Diploma in Modern Applied Psychology; Diploma in Fitness Instructing; Registered Yoga Teacher; Certified Yoga Nidra Instructor (from Nada Yoga School in Rishikesh, India); Certified Children’s and Teens Yoga Teacher; Certified Restorative Yoga Teacher; Certified Chair Yoga Teacher, Certified Yin Yoga Teacher, Certified Meditation Facilitator, Nature Therapy Practitioner.

LENA’S STORY:
“I was blessed to have discovered yoga at a very difficult time in my life which was after an accident that my Mother had. Some people say that it takes a huge life event to happen in order for us to change, step onto the right path and realise our true nature and authenticity. Others call it the “Dark Night Of The Soul” or a “Great Awakening”.
I turned to yoga to help me recover and had no clue that I was about to reconnect with my inner-self and begin a lifelong journey. I tried many different therapies; counselling, running and a Vipassana meditation course in India but I wasn’t getting better and actually was becoming further away from myself. I couldn’t understand why.
Finally on another trip in India where I was on a determined mission to “fix myself” of the loss, despair, pain, hurt and depression I was suffering, in Mysore a Spanish girl told me about a wonderful yoga Centre nearby. Intuition kicked in and I jumped out of the bed and went to book a lesson. What an experience. The teacher was amazing. I felt grace, divine intervention and true bliss, I had come home. I was shocked that it took me the darkest months of my life to find this, how had I not ever known about yoga? This road became a pathway of discovery that involved far more than just physical health. The practice of yoga provided me with such profound emotional, energetic, mental, moral and spiritual healing that I now devote my life to sharing the remarkable, transformative tradition of yoga.
Since my school years and throughout most of my twenties, I felt very lost and was searching the answers to some deep questions : What is life? Who am I? What is my purpose? Where am I going? .. I spent lots of time abroad travelling and working. I interailed around Europe, visited South East Asia, Australia, South America, India, Nepal and the Philippines as well as taught English in China and Taiwan. The Ancient Teachings of yoga gave me a vision of a reality that was not obvious at first. Gradually, through dedicated practice and study I began to understand the origins of yoga, it’s theory, philosophy, history and method. I started to find answers.
I do sometimes have my angry and sad moments about the world, wholeheartedly knowing that it shouldn’t be the way it is : war, sickness, stress, separation from each other, competition instead of cooperation, a disconnection from nature and technology oriented. I feel now more than ever as old systems are collapsing and the planet is changing, we need all the natural remedies there are and modalities that make us feel good and connect us to our souls.
My psychotherapist told me that our families are our best teachers on the journey to becoming who we are meant to be. Our relationships and people we meet in life are key to growth. I will continue to be a student expanding my knowledge and information around varies health fields. Change is needed sometimes and we have to do the inner work to mend our most deepest wounds and traumas to become the best versions of ourselves and know our full potential. The body has a powerful innate and extraordinary ability to heal itself once we are aware and tap into that. We are the creators of our lives and destinies not victims. It’s time to THRIVE!!
Through my Yoga practice and journey, my passion for dance has become really strong. I am going to Slovenia this Summer to complete the practical part of the course. I am now fascinated and interested in all areas of holistic health such as the mind-body relationship, nutrition, mindfulness, cold water swimming, nature, animals and meditation. I see how these are all interlinked and it’s how we live : a simple lifestyle, nutrition, exercise – making a conscious choice to live in a state of gratitude.
We can read all the best books, watch super documentaries, have biographies with beautiful words and amazing profiles, but, it’s all about practicing what we preach and relating what we do to our own lives, be our own best teacher. I have my struggles too. Life experience is valuable and especially when we face difficult times and overcome challenges. Self care and self love are also vital. This is what I have learnt. I always thought that it was about the external factors - how we look, having the perfect job and lots of money etc. I realised the internal dimensions and reality are what matter. I used to think that was airy fairy wacky concepts but how wrong I was.
We are always learning, life is a university and everyday is a school day. Yoga and dance help us to become more finely tuned. Everyone has a story to tell and has a unique purpose so by sharing our skills and helping one another we can make the world a better place. We can all make a difference and contribute to the planet’s healing.
For me, yoga practice and techniques are applied to all areas of life so I take everything I have learnt off the mat and bring it out into the world where it actually matters. When I find myself in a hard situation I notice now that I just am able to observe my breath and deeply inhale and exhale.
What has yoga done for me or how has it helped? Yoga integrates the mind, the body and the spirit and forms a strong connection to the heart and also changes consciousness. Yoga helped me fulfil personal destiny. With the wisdom gained through self-awareness, I became to know myself deeply, directly, and powerfully. With regular daily practice, I saw my body transform, feel more energetic, and I actually felt more happier and compassionate. The practice of yoga is a decision to believe in yourself against all odds. It is a choice you make to walk down a self-empowering path toward your own liberation from suffering and to true freedom.
My dreams are to help people in every way that I can by showing them the gifts of yoga and dance practice and allow it to inspire real change in their lives. I aspire to create a more peaceful, harmonious world and lastly to see love everywhere around me. In the end, we are all different but, looking for the same things.. Everlasting Love, Health, Vitality Joy, Happiness and Peace…."
