Another hotel reception and we're ready to saunter. Highlights and hidden gems on the agenda this morning.
"De feckin neck o dem" you'd swear "dey ownded de place"
This historic photo of Pádraig Pearse handing the surrender document to the British is made even more infamous by the removal by 'airbrush" of Nurse Elizabeth O'Farrell. Apparently the news media were instructed to remove the "mere woman" for propaganda purposes. They failed to remove all traces, however, and you can still see her feet next to Pearse. I always tell the story when heading down Parnell street past the sadly crumbling Conways pub. If you want to deep dive the 1916 rebellion is your man.
A Covid safe pint in my office waiting for this afternoon's victims, erm guests
Love or hate them, the Poolbeg stacks are synonymous with my city, here they are visible from the hill behind my house more than 8 miles away as the crow flies. has an excellent episode about them in Donal's archive. Check it out.
Sally & Lenny's thoughts on Mondays....
Dublin lore has it that Brendan Behan was known to use this early hand drier to dry his overcoat if caught out in the rain while on a session around Grafton Street.
Erin & Tony are visiting to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary and were kind enough to post a nice 5 * review after yesterday's foodie saunter.
A great way to spend the afternoon!
Our experience with Ruairi was fantastic. He showed us so many gems we never would’ve discovered on my own and was more than happy to accommodate my GF diet. He provided tips and suggestions before we even left for our trip that were helpful with planning. He was entertaining and such a fun personality. This experience was definitely worth it!
On the road again
With Ireland Old and New – I just got recognized as one of their top fans! 🎉
Do you ever bump into someone famous and forget that you don't actually know them and attempt to strike up a conversation? I had one of those embarrassing moments with this really funny chap in town last week. Thankfully he was a gentleman and didn't blank me and we agreed that his Mammy posts were very cathartic.
A nice little capture by last night on Grafton Street.
2p and a curly wurley is on offer to whoever can correctly guess where these two international travellers come from. In the event of more than one correct answer the winner will be drawn at random from those who got it right.
My fellow Trolley boy from Superquinn Ballinteer was always a funny fe**er.
Two tours out of today. A lovely boutique establishment. It regularly has better rates than much lesser hotels. Worth checking out if you want a smaller posh hotel when you're visiting Dublin.
What a programme! If you're living in Dublin you'll definitely find something here for you. Plenty online too for those of you who can't make an event.

Rumours that I'm leaving Guiding to take up a community role at Tottenham are much exaggerated.
I love getting unofficial mail in this world of electronic communications and I'm not the only one
The "Dad, I've got some bad news" face. I can guarantee there's something unpleasant waiting for me down stairs..... #
Love this.
Being guided around Knowth's passage tombs today by the silky voiced .
A really nice stroll in the sunshine along the river Dodder with Dublin musical maestros .band yesterday. Check out their music on Spotify.
Myself & every other middle aged man in Dublin today....
Ooooh sign..... Obedientia Civium Urbis Felicitas' is Dublin's historic motto . This may be translated as 'Happy the city where citizens obey. But it might be time to update it to "seek forgiveness not permission"

People regularly ask me when is the best time to visit Dublin. It's hard to beat very late August and early September. As soon as the kids go back to school the sun usually makes an appearance....
Are these small or far away?
