I know it's technically still summer but now that kids are back in school, Halloween is beckoning, then you know it's downhill to the big C 🎄

When a client hires a sander to tackle floors in new house. These floors are all cupped ( wavey appearance, raised on every edge due to expansion etc) so not an easy fix.

1. Hire Sanders aren't are not normally looked after as well as a professional tradesman would care for his equipment.

2. If you hire equipment you may get five mins demonstration, if you are lucky, on how to use the machinery.

3. Belts and discs are of different grit ( coursness differs for correct cutting of the floor and wood species) and you need to know which to use in every situation. Equipment can fail and break, how do you fix or continue with your job????

4. The wrong equipment in the wrong hands can, and more often does, lead to more damage to your floors.

Recent semi solid oak floor restoration.

Finished solid oak herringbone floors completed recently just outside Wexford town for this regular client.

If you look at previous post you'll see how bad these floors had degraded over time, but I think you'll agree they are now looking as good as new again.

All now looking as good as new again.

Another job completed this week in Glenmore Co Kilkenny.
This old pitch Pine floor was in bad way, worn, marked sun bleeched but most of all had been badly sanded by previous contractor.

This floor was sanded back to bare wood, the main body of floor was also filled to cover excessive nail marks, holes and gaps. This client had decided, after samples stains had been done earlier, to go with a clear natural silk matt finish.

The floor is now looking as good as new again and protected for years ahead 👌

Monday morning rolls around again.

Back in Waterford city centre for a change.

Old wide plank Pine boards here hidden under carpets in the attic room.

Plan is to strip them back to bare wood, flatten out all imperfections and keep it in nice natural finish.

Here's a final look at the completed oak herringbone floor completed yesterday just outside wexford town. This is one of four rooms that will eventually completed for this client.

This gorgeous floor has been battered over the 17years since it was fitted.

But it's now brought fully back to life and looks as good as new again.

As promised, here are the final photos from this job completed in Clonmel last week.

Old Victorian Pine boards were hidden under carpets, years of grime, paint, varnish etc.

This one took serious graft to get it back in a condition ready for clients chosen stain option, then finished with a protective hard wax oil.

This floor has been fully sanded and edged. Corner's, door saddles have been scraped.

Next step for this specific floor is Water Popping as it will be stained to the client's chosen colour tone.
