St Laserian’s NS ‘over the moon’ with terrific $25,000 windfall from US charity 19/09/2022

SOME VERY EXCITING NEWS FOR ST LASERIANS!

We will be receiving a donation in the region of $25,000!

We were so honoured to be chosen as one of the 2023 Rockville Centre St. Patrick's Parade Sponsor Charities.

This fundraising committee is based in New York.

It was a rigorous process; we were selected to the final three Irish charities in August, then asked to present by video link to The Board of Directors in early September.

Our application for funding was to provide a wheelchair swing for our wheelchair and buggy users- something we have wanted for our students for a long time, but just never reached on the funds, due to the cost of the swing and the ground works needed.

The Board of Directors were blown away by our wonderful, happy students and the thoughtful, engaging learning opportunities provided by our staff.

Thank you to Colleen Scully, teacher, for her hard work in securing the project.

School Vegetable Beds

Mr Kelly had a look at how our Vegetable Garden has been doing without us for the past while. Despite the fact that the vegetables are having to share the space with lots of lovely red poppies they seem to be doing well. It will be exciting to see them harvested by the Senior students in September.

Gymnasts Practising Their Moves

Members of our Special Olympics Gymnastics Team have not been letting the grass grow under their feet during the Covid 19 closure period. They, and their families, have been 'Zooming' weekly with their gymnastic coaches, SNAs and fellow gymnasts. You will see from the video how hard they have been working to perfect those moves - and to just get better and better! It is fabulous to see such dedication, hard work and enjoyment on everyone's part.
