This historic house was originally built as a hunting lodge for the Earls of Bantry. The Lodge is situated on its own private island in the Glengarriff River and is surrounded by a five acre garden within a secluded 40 acre woodland estate. Visitor attractions are the Italian Gardens on Garnish Island which may be visited by boat trip, as well as nearby Glengarriff Forest containing some of the oldest and most extensive oak and birch groves left in Ireland. Lady Bantry's Lookout offers stunning views of Glengarriff and the west Cork area. Walking trails in the area are extensive, kayaking on the bay is regularly scheduled, and live music is frequently available in the evenings at local pubs in the tourist season.
