All associated with Westmeath GAA would like to wish James Dolan the very best of luck for the future after he recently announced his retirement from intercounty football.
The Garrycastle man has been one of our most important players this millennium and will always be remembered as one of the games most attacking defenders, renowned for his goalscoring exploits, scoring a total of 18-27 in the maroon and white.
Dolan has played at intercounty level for 13 seasons and has helped The Lake County to a Division 3 League and O'Byrne Cup title in 2019, Division 4 League title in 2017 as well as being part of the 2022 victorious Tailteann Cup side and this year's Division 3 league winning team.
Dolan will be forever remembered as one of our county's top players and most consistent performers
Thanks for everything James 👏👏👏

All of us here at Garrycastle GAA would like to congratulate James Dolan on an unbelievable inter county career as he retires from playing with Westmeath.
13 years of service for Westmeath. He scored a whopping 18-27 during his senior inter-county career mostly from wing back. He will go down as one of Westmeath’s best ever scoring backs 👏👏🟢🔴

Well done to Amelie Henson who won the 50m swim at the All-Ireland Community Games yesterday.
Garrycastle nursery in full swing on Sunday morning. Great fun had by all.
Hard luck to Westmeath Minors in the tier 3 All Ireland final today losing out to Down in a hard fought game ending in a score line of 4-13 to 1-18.
We are incredibly proud of our own players involved throughout the season especially to James McHugh who was awarded Man of the Match today scoring an incredible 11 points
Garrycastle U/14’s had a comprehensive win over Shandonagh in R7 of the league tonight. They started off slow enough to get into game , however once they took the lead they never looked back. Excellent performance by all.
Lads are now looking forward to the Division 2 league final next week (details of game to follow)
Well done to all involved 💪🏼💪🏼👏👏👏

Wishing all our JC and LC members the best of luck as they start their exams tomorrow. 🍀
Cusack Park, Mullingar was the place to be yesterday evening where our 2 u12 teams finished off phase 1 of their league campaign.
The sun was shining and the lads were buzzing to get a run out on our county grounds. Westmeath Minor Board deserve huge credit for their excellently organised league campaign which culminated with every u12 Team getting to play Finals Day in Cusack Park. This has resulted in a record number of lads playing football at u12 level this year. Our our Garrycastle Minor Board and underage coaches can too be very proud of their efforts. We had our largest ever number of 45 players in total represent us over the 16 matches.
To add to the feel good factor every child partaking over the weekends games received a football.
On the field , our green team were involved in a fantastic end to end game with both teams producing brilliant football. Goalkeeper Lorcan Farrell, Captain Paul Fallon, Billy McGinley, Paul Sleator and Conor Gayson stood strong against a very direct and impressive Multy attack. Around the middle Tiernan Frawley and Harry Killian worked so hard to win possession. The terrific twins Kyle and Kaiden McCormack worked tirelessly to win possession and upfront some brilliant link play between Tiernan Sweeney, James Dillon and Josh Byrne kept the scoreline ticking over. This game went right to the wire with the final 3 scores of game coming via a Tiernan Sweeney goal , James Dillon point and Kai McCormack kicked the winner leaving one point separating the teams in the end.
Our Red Team then took to the field against Killucan and got off to a brilliant start with early goals from Sam Dolan a great team goal from the busy William Redmond after great passing by Ruairi Holohan and Senan Keena.
Garrycastles defence carried the ball out of trouble with Jason Doolin and Noah Atwi leading the line. A great block by Michael Kelly denied a certain score as the Dolans, David and Nathan combined to for great points. Killucan kept the defence very busy and again this week Daniel Lane was very assured in the goals. Late scores by Nathan, Ruairi and the hard working Jamie Costelloe helped Garrycastle over the line.
Well done to our Division 2 team this evening who beat Rosemount to gain promotion back to Division 1 with one game to spare 🔴🟢🔴🟢
