Spot the otter who turned up to say hello to our 4th years this morning on the Douglas Estuary.
4th year students on their “Field Ornithology” trip to the Douglas Estuary, where they saw an otter eating a fish 20m away and many waders and wildfowl getting ready to migrate.

Jamie Darbie, who recently passed his PhD viva at BEES, just published some very interesting results showing long term trends in the use of trawlers by fulmars, populations of which are in widespread decline. The study was a collaborative effort across many research groups in Europe.

Great to see 'Storm Fergus' in the Met Éireann storms list named for former Professor of Zoology at UCC (1954-1982) Prof Fergus O'Rourke. Prof O'Rourke was a noted myrmecologist; produced an authoritive description of Irish ants & recognised their importance as disease vectors.

One focuses on Ecology and carbon, and the other focuses on Farm Economics and Carbon. This is a collaboration between UCC, Irish Distillers and Teagasc.
