HIV PEP is a course of tablets that can prevent possible HIV infection if you have had condomless s*x, or if a condom has split or slipped off and you do not know the HIV status of your s*xual partner.

HIV PEP must be started within 72 hours of potential exposure to HIV.

The sooner you start your course of the better.

Contact your local STI clinic to make an urgent appointment.

If you are unable to get an appointment or it is out of hours, PEP is available at your nearest hospital emergency department.

GHN has written a letter to the Managing Director of News and Current Affairs at RTÉ on foot of their article about mpox dated 3rd July 2024.

"Responsible reporting, especially for state broadcasters, is crucial. RTÉ, as our national broadcaster, has a duty to uphold these standards however in this instance, the mpox coverage fell short of expectations. We urge you to reflect on your editorial practices and ensure future reporting prioritises helpful public health information while avoiding unnecessary sensationalisation and stigma."

There has been an increase in hepatitis B among gay, bis*xual and other men who have s*x with men (gbMSM).

But there's good news: vaccination is the most effective way to prevent it.

The hep B vaccine is freely available at your nearest STI clinic or GP. An administration fee will apply at your GP if you don’t have a medical card.
