Copper Coast Geopark Discover Ireland Visit Waterford
Annestown (Irish: Bun Abha, meaning "River's End") is a coastal village made up of around 25 cottages and houses built on a steep hill. It is the perfect destination for surfers but only when there are large swells and waves as the cove has very shallow water.
The seclusion of this beach makes it an ideal spot for families and visitors to enjoy quiet time without the intrusion of too many people. Annestown is definitely one of the hidden gems in Waterford County.

The old Dunhill Castle ruins are what remains of a once-proud castle in the middle of the Waterford countryside. The la Poer family built the Dunhill castle in the early 1200’s. There is some evidence of an earlier Celtic fort on the hilltop also. The town's name is derived from the Irish translation of the fort of the rock. Between the castle and church would have stood the medieval village of Dunhill which was basically a string of wooden houses. Attached to the front of the church was a small tower in which the priest lived. There are many angles that you could take of the building, however, A Girl Who Blooms captured this unique image of the castle by drone.

Did you know? The inclusion of bins on site attracts more waste and causes rubbish build up. They are also costly and unsightly. If a site has a Leave No Trace policy in place, it may mean that bins are not provided. 🚯
Plan ahead and pack a rubbish bag with your picnic. By doing this you are leaving this site for others to enjoy and helping protect our plant and animal species.
