Slip of the Tongue
Slip of the Tongue is a curated night of music , spokenword , poetry , drag ,comedy at IttyBittys
It’s OCTOBER
We’re weeks away from Dress You Up and it’s 4 night run in Bank Lane with Stagemad
We will be part of the Imagine Festival 2024
I am up the walls like Dulux. But rehearsals have been great and I think we have a great piece for you to enjoy
It is the summer of 1997 and Girl Power is in, as are Fianna Fáil and New Labour. Bobbie Burke is discovering that he will need to learn how to walk in stilettos before he will be able to run.
At school, he is bullied and tormented by Decky Flynn, who reckons that he can ‘beat the gay out of him’. However, he is aided and abetted by his friend, Mandy, who helps him with his make-up and is known to have kicked Decky Flynn in the balls once, on Bobby’s behalf. Still, she also admits to having a crush on Decky and a recent couple of pregnancy tests have turned up positive.
Bobbie is also supported by his aunt and godmother, Karen, a self-confessed alcoholic whose life feels like an endless cycle of hangovers, h***y barflies, vomit and bad karaoke.
When his mother passes away his father, Mick, copes by burying himself in work, taking every shift he can get at the factory where he works. He simply isn’t there for Bobbie but that certain summer, a father and son do bond, eventually, and life will never be the same again, for either of them.
For people like Bobbie Burke, drag is a suit of armour in a cruel, piercing, hostile world. It screams under disco balls and dances till dawn, demanding to be heard.

WAYNE POWER Wayne Power returns to Phil Grimes this September 27th
Dress You Up , the official launch of the book and play takes place tonight in The Book Centre from 6.30pm
Launched by award winning Nicola Spendlove and featuring cast readings
I’m really proud of this play and the work we’ve put in so far.
It’s very bizarre to be on a 5th book and one that isn’t poetry. The book retails at €12 and is the finished play up to rehearsals. So you will get bonus material and pieces that may not make the final shows
Tickets for the play are selling well. I’m very grateful to have Bank Lane host this play. It’s an amazing venue and I’d urge you all to keep supporting this gorgeous space. There’s a string of massive gigs happening there this autumn/winter from Pillow Queens to Villagers. And I’m always grateful to be afforded any opportunity to feature there.
So pop down tonight for a sneak preview and a natter. Bring your 90s outfits and Madonna outfits. This applies to the shows run too. By all means , dress like you’re in the 90s or the Queen of Pop.
If you’re a fan of Madonna and Oasis you may eat up this play.
So see you tonight from 6.30pn
