Purim is just around the corner and we have a great activity for you and/or the kids!
Take a thin sheet of cork - 3mm or so is perfect - and draw your mask. You can free-style it, or print one up and trace around it. Using a boxcutter, cut the cork around your lines and don't forget to cut out the eyes! 😃
Next comes the best part - decorating! We recommend using puffy paints, such as fabric paints as they add a nice cool look to the whole thing 🙂
After your mask is completely dry, take a skewer and glue it onto one side, à la opera glasses!
All set! You now have a special, DIY, eco-friendly, super-awesome mask to complete your costume 🥸

Sometimes a trivet doesn't have to *stay* a trivet 😁

One of our more creative customers took one of our trivets, added a couple of beautiful stones she found, made 2 adorable figurines out of wire and.... Voila!! An amazing record holder 📀🤩

So what does cork have to do with global warming?

In the process of manufacturing plastics, as well as other synthetic materials, greenhouse gases are emitted. Similar gases are emitted as these products slowly break down in landfills. One of the greenhouse gases is carbon dioxide (CO2). Using natural, biodegradable products such as cork and wood means less CO2 is emitted, which is much better for the environment.

So why is cork the best material out there? Trees remove CO2 from the air around us, and also release oxygen. This can help slow down, and perhaps even stop, global warming and the irreversible damage it causes. Cork is made from the bark of the tree, which is peeled off while leaving the trunk and tree intact. Wooden products generally use the tree trunk, and therefor the tree must be cut down.

We all have lots of things we can do to minimize our carbon footprint - recycling, using public transportation. Another great, easy way is by using cork products instead of synthetic alternatives, such as cork yoga blocks, cork wallets and more!

So there's a good chance that the last time you opened a bottle of wine, you didn't really take the time to look at the cork carefully. Well - we're here to give you a quick rundown on the different kinds of cork stoppers!
The first kind is made up of lots of small cork granules. This is called agglomerated cork and it's made out of pieces of bark that weren't flat enough or thick enough to manufacture natural corks out of (we'll get to that in a second :)) Many cork products are manufactured out of agglomerated cork, such as memo boards, yoga blocks and trivets. This cork is ideal for wine that will be opened relatively quickly, about 4-5 years.
The next kind of stopper is also made out of agglomerated cork but it has two natural cork discs, one on each end. Natural cork means cork that hasn't been ground up into granules, but rather maintains the natural texture of the tree bark. This is good for wine that will be opened after up to 10 years or so.
The last kind is the all-natural cork stopper. This is the most expensive as there relatively few "perfect" cork bark pieces that are think enough and flat enough to manufacture full corks out of them (the process can be seen in the pic below). The leftovers of these pieces of bark are ground up to make agglomerate cork stoppers, as well as the other products we mentioned.
SO! The next time you open a bottle of wine, take a closer look at the cork. And if someone is sitting with you, feel free to break out the wine connoisseur in you and show off your extensive wine knowledge!😁🥂
