कोयल पक्षी की आवाज जितनी मीठी होती है यह उससे कई गुना ज्यादा चालाक होती है। यह दूसरे पक्षियों के घोंसलों से अंडे खा जाती है और अपने अंडे उसके घोंसले में रख देती है ऐसे में वह बेचारा पक्षी जाने अनजाने में कोयल के ही अंडों को से देता है। कोयल कभी जमीन पर नहीं उतरती, यह हमेशा पेड़ो पर ही रहती है। कोयल का भोजन छोटे मोटे कीड़े ही बनते है। यह खास ज्यादातर बालों वाले कीड़े, सूंडी, झींगे और चीटियां खाती है। गाने का शौक केवल नर कोयल को ही होता है। अक्सर पेड़ो से आने वाली कुहू कुहू की मधुर आवाज नर कोयल ही निकालता है.
