Mild to moderate exercise is advisable during period. Yoga plays a crucial role in alleviating the abdominal cramps by improving circulation, relaxing muscles and supplying more oxygen to tissues. Performing asanas may even improve mood and thus combat mood swings, (inverted postures are to be avoided). So the bottom line is to perform exercise during period only to improve circulation to the pelvic area, relax your muscles, feel good about yourself and certainly NOT OVER DO! It’s all about what’s best for you and your body.

So make sure you Listen to Your Body when you exercise during your period!

Hot flash/hot flush during perimenopause /menopause is a sudden feeling of intense heat followed by profuse sweating, commonly associated with palpitation & weakness. Low estrogen level & increase in LH (a pituitary hormone) is a pre-requisite for hot flush. These flushes can last from few seconds to several minutes and are more intense at night. It can recurr 10-30times/day! Not all women approaching menopause experience hot flushes. Pitta, Vata body constitution is more likely to have hot flushes. Refraining from smoking, alcohol, caffeine, spicy-sour-salty food, mental stress can help ease hot flushes.

* Talk to an Ayurvedic consultant to know your body constitution

Yes it is! :) know that you are not the only one behaving ‘unusual’ and that your hormones are to blame! But the good news is, you no longer have to!
Pre menstrual syndrome (PMS) is a cluster of symptoms that you may note before your period which can be physical, emotional,or behavioral. The commonest ones include mood fluctuations, anxiety, irritability, tearfulness, tiredness, bloating, headache, backache, breast tenderness, pimples, constipation. Fluctuations in estrogen & progesterone levels & a reduction in production of serotonin (a neurotrasmitter which regulates mood) is thought to be the cause for PMS.

An increase in Kapha, Pitta & Vata dosha in the body triggers the aforesaid symptoms. Here are few Ayurvedic tips to follow & combat PMS;
*Include Asafoetida (hing), Cumin(jeera), carom seeds(ajwain) , ginger , horsegram, barley in diet
*Drink only warm water throughout the day, preferably water boiled with Cumin (Jeera)
*1 tsp of triphala powder at bedtime with warm water
*Minimize intake of spicy, oily, salty, excessive sweet & refrigerated food
*Do not over eat, avoid restaurant visits during this time, avoid alcohol & caffeine
*Yoga & Pranayam can naturally boost serotonin levels & improve feeling of wellness, reduce stress & anxiety substantially
*A Simple foot massage at home for 5-10min can work wonders!

Do not shy away to discuss your symptoms with your Gyno, because severe PMS can even provoke suicidal tendencies!!

Yes it is and is very appropriately labelled as ‘Honeymoon cystitis’. Cystitis is basically the inflammation of urinary bladder which is quite common in females than males; reason being the significantly shorter urethral length of females, enabling easy access for bacteria into the bladder. Recurrent, intense and prolonged sexual acts following marriage/ sustained abstinence can irritate the urethra, and predispose Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). The symptoms of UTI are pain & severe burning sensation while passing urine, frequent urge to void urine, lower abdomen & back pain, fever with chills (in acute infection), pain during in*******se, cloudy, smelly & bloody urine.

Few tips to prevent UTI -
*Keep your self well hydrated
*Make sure to wash the private parts after every sexual act & after voiding urine
*Thereafter, do not leave the parts damp; wipe off with a napkin/tissue paper from FRONT to BACK (urethra to va**na, never reverse!)
*Do not with-hold the urge of urination
*Avoid tight undergarments & clothing
*Stick to a healthy lifestyle to keep your immune system healthy & active

Should you' PLAN' your pregnancy?

Undoubtedly YES! But how many of us have really done it? how many of us have genuinely felt the need for it? how many of us are at least aware of it?

When we make an investment, don't we think twice, thrice...10times, about its risks, future, long term benefits and so on? When it comes to 'investing' for a NEW LIFE, why do we step back heedlessly? We generally think of pre-conceptional intervention only when a medical/fertility issue bothers us. However it's equally important for the healthy couples to 'PLAN' their pregnancy.

A popular phrase 'Well begun is half done' says it all! It doesn't just end in consuming folic acid/multivitamin supplements for a month or two...! It's more about being able to produce the BEST s***m & o**m by the male & female body! Human Sperms take 64 days & O**m takes about 85days to form. Our food, lifestyle, health & emotional status can all impact the health of s***m/ o**m during these vulnerable days and in-turn impact health of the child. Therefore, planning pregnancy well in advance becomes crucial.
Here's HOW.........

Garbhadhana sanskar' (Pre-conceptional Care) which is the 1st step towards achieving the 'finest' offspring, explained in ancient Ayurvedic literature, aims at begetting healthy s***ms & o**m for conception by detoxifying (shuddhi) the couple's body and advocating specific diet & medications to enhance reproductive health! Pre-conceptional care can help reduce risk of miscarriages, birth deformities, growth retardation, medical problems associated with pregnancy, in-turn improve health of the mother & child.

Here is an honest advice to those who are in a hurry to conceive; if your pre-conceptional health is not at its optimum, your pregnancy is likely to be eventful.

Rise & 'PLAN' before it's too late.
