Fitness of our got tested when we completed an obstacle course designed by a former military commando. Though it was a small and simple one, it does remind everyone that health is important and we need to keep working on it.

14 years back on our honeymoon, I’d arranged for a stay at a 5 star place. For one of the meals at their restaurant, I realised that I had exhausted my funds. We ended up sharing our dinner that night (.. and like a noble wife she forfeited most part of the dinner, so atleast I could eat well). Needless to say, I felt miserable.

That was a long time ago. Pari has been along side me all these years as we have worked hard towards our dream.

Recently when we stayed at Leela, Goa (now St Regis) I arranged for a surprise, private exclusive dinner by the riverside. 3 people waiting on us and an extravagant 3 hour meal, no one else around…

It was a gesture of gratitude for the journey we have walked together all these years.

This was not today but thought of sharing as we celebrate Valentine’s everyday and any day. It’s not an event but a process of being together through thick and thin.

It’s the journey that’s beautiful. So let’s make Valentine’s year, not just a day.

My reaction when people make lame excuses to start the journey towards better Health or to lose weight.

Top excuses -

It's too expensive.
I'm too busy.
I've had a bad day.
I deserve a treat.
It's genetics.
Diets don't work for me.
I've got a slow metabolism.
I'll start my diet tomorrow.
I don’t have discipline
I can’t workout
I will start after the family function
Etc etc etc

Reading is to the mind as workout is to the body. Over a period of 10 years+, I have installed a habit of purchasing few books every month and reading almost everyday.

Now our personal library has 700+ books and the wisdom that we have acquired because of this habit has helped us create 10X value for our clients and improve revenues by more than 18X.

You will never understand it’s impact when you look at this on any particular day. But repetition of this reading habit over years is the best return on investment. That investment is on you.

The best return is when your kids pick up this habit. They don’t do what we say. They copy what we do and who we are. It’s time to start building some good reading habits.

After a hectic couple of months, took time to watch Avatar - way of water.

What makes this movie so entertaining is the small details. Sweat the small stuff.

The devil is in the details. That’s why it takes so long to make a masterpiece. Greatness is in the details and details require self discipline. Even if no one notices the makers do.

Coach John wooden would teach his best recruits (from the entire nation) how to wear socks in the first training session. He understood that footwear is incredibly important for basketball players. It’s no wonder he coached his team to win many championships.

Interesting conversation with my mom.

I do strength workouts 4-5 times a week at home. I have a trainer who comes in and without him I won't be able to push myself or hold myself accountable for long. Obviously after workouts the body is a little sore and I sometimes get myself a back massage to relax my body.

My mom was seeing this and one day she asked me " Why do you pay the trainer and workout and get tired and then pay money again to get a massage. Might as well get rid of both. No pain, no trainer, no workout, no massage. :-)". Very interesting observation.

But growth happens when we stretch, when there is little amount of stress. This periods of high intensity followed by rest is what creates growth. So the pain is essential.

People don’t just want to lose weight.

They want to fit into their wedding clothes maybe or they want to get fit to run behind their kids or they want to feel good (which comes from good health) or they want to look good in their marriage or a social function. Or maybe they got a wake up call looking at their annual health report.

There is always an emotional reason to lose weight and get healthy. This is a beautiful narrative of my friend Uddipan of how he went through rejection due to being overweight. Glad that it’s in the past now.

We just shot a series of webinars on health, weightloss and understanding root cause. It took us about 2 days to complete a 90 min recording with various other involved.

Just going back the memory lane, it took me almost 8 hours and 5 people assisting me to shoot my first video. There was a white board in front to remind me of my lines and I was forgetting to smile and many other issues. After a harrowing day of effort we remember sitting and thinking at this rate we will take Godzilla number of years to learn a new skill.

But that’s how we learn. “All changes are hard at the beginning, messy in the middle and gorgeous in the end.”
Now are are 1 take artists. Key is not to give up and keep improving.

But what we saw was how competitive we are as humans. Once we gamified the whole health process, we could see a spring in the steps of all 700 people who participated.

Chirag took my mom’s phone and started walking all over the house non stop. He made all of us walk more, take evening walks together. We could see ownership and a will to win and get into the leaderboard.

Well at the end he was overjoyed with the certificate and the virtual medal. Simple rewards but enough to bring a change.
