Making dreams come true. In August 2023, I came across an ad for a hotel in Dharamshala which looked absolutely stunning. Snow capped mountains, a gorgeous sky and greenery all around. For some reason this ad had a very calming effect on me, so I took a screenshot. I’d look at it quite often when I wouldn’t be feeling too good and I’d imagine myself sitting there, on a particular chair, happy, healthy and full of love. At that time I didn’t know how I’d make the journey because it’s quite a journey from Bangalore.

Fast forward to June 2024, not only was I sitting in that same chair healthy, happy and full of love, I was also surrounded by love from my two angels .yoga and . The snow capped mountains barely had any snow, the sun was beating down on us, I barely spent 5 minutes at this dream spot of mine but it meant the world to me. The best part is, the journey that I thought would be tough was so smooth. Niru & Tutu, maybe someday I’ll have right/better words to be able to express what you did for me 💜

Here it is! The Posture Project - 8 Week Posture Alignment Journey.

This program is for anyone who wants to understand and work on their postural issues. It’s no secret now that our posture has a lot to do with our aches and pains, how we breathe, how we move and even how we feel.

If you’ve noticed that you slouch, or you have one shoulder higher than the other or one hip higher than the other etc. Doing only shoulder or hip exercises are not the solution. You need to look at the body as one big unit.

Through the 8 weeks of this program, I will guide you through exercise routines that will address the body as a unit, showing you that most of the time the site of your pain or issue is rarely the source of your pain/issue.

I don’t teach you anything that I haven’t tried and benefitted from already - whether it’s Posture Alignment Solutions or Hatha Yoga practices. Simple.

Both Posture Alignment Therapy & Isha Hatha Yoga came to at the same time, almost 8 years ago - I was looking for solutions to get relief from Sciatica. How did it develop? I was acing the ‘Art of Sitting’ - something most of us are very good at because we do it for hours a day. Back then, on a working day I would probably be sitting for 5hours in a chair, 2 hours in a car, 1-2 hours on the couch - That’s 8 hours or more of sitting in a day! I was an expert.

One day, I decided I wanted to lead a more active lifestyle and I joined a Zumba class - by the third session I had to drop out because I was in pain. Do we blame Zumba for this? Nope. It’s never the activity, it’s the body you’re taking to the activity. If you take your body from sitting for 8 hours a day to suddenly jumping around, it’s bound to get stressed. What helped? After trying everything, Yoga and Posture Alignment Therapy.

RSIs (Repetitive Stress Injuries) or MSDs (Musculoskeletal Disorders) account for 50% of Workplace Pain in India.

My goal has always been to address this issue for as many people as possible with the knowledge and the experience that I have.

Check your toes before you wreck your toes! Here’s something you probably haven’t noticed (if you have, that’s awesome!). Most socks, no matter how cool they are, no matter how expensive they are - restrict your toes! We’ve all heard about barefoot shoes but if you’re wearing socks inside that don’t let your toes splay, you’re missing out. Toe socks let your toes move the way they want to and can also help you gradually adjust to wearing toe spacers if your toes are super scrunched up. They’re not the best looking but it’s about time we start choosing function over fashion for daily wear. The pictures say it all actually. It’s winter, I’m sure some of you are reading this post with socks on - if you can’t spread your toes apart comfortably, you might want to 1) switch to toe socks 2) get your toes moving and work on foot mobility and strength (can help you with a bunch of stuff for that - DM me).

A post I never thought I’d put up but there’s a lot to learn from my darling aunt Gopa.

Not everyone knows the struggles she’s been through but everyone remembers her beautiful smile, the love she spread and her vibrancy - what a beautiful imprint to leave in everyone’s minds, hearts and lives. Few can go through things the way she did with a smile on her face and warmth in her heart. A reminder to smile - My Gogu, my inspiration and everyone’s sweetheart.

Our last conversation a few days ago was so sweet - she encouraged me as always to step out of my comfort zone. I hope I can be a beautiful, loving aunt, just like her.

Rest easy in grace and love, Gogu. I miss you and I love you so much 💜🌸

Sanam Akka is BACK! 🥳 Taught my first in-person Isha Hatha Yoga class after a year today. I hadn’t actually stopped teaching, was still teaching online all these months - just couldn’t do in-person classes for multiple reasons. I missed these sessions so much!

Wow, nothing comes close to this feeling - I saw such a beautiful change in my participants in just one session - the very way they sat by the end of the class was 👌🏼

Just like me at the beginning of my spiritual journey, the lady was sceptical. It only took a 2 minute version of my own story to get her to feel relaxed and involved - after that she learnt everything beautifully. It’s so important to share your journey with others. It’s important for others to know and understand that many of us started out the same way - clueless and unsure.

Arun’s shoulder pain has reduced by 70-80% in just 2 weeks! He said it, not me 😉 (Sound On)!

This is someone who eventually went for an ECG because shoulder X-rays and MRIs couldn’t explain why he was having left shoulder/chest pain!

Doctors couldn’t figure it out but we did - together, in 1 session but we still have more to do. My sessions are educational, I work with the client to figure out what exercises would work best for issues.

What did we do? We worked on removing rotation, brought the hips into a more vertically stacked position rather than being bailed forward and some scapular work.

The above is a great example of: the site of the pain is rarely the source of the pain.

Happy Earth Day, Earth Buddies 🌏🌱

Did you get to spend time with nature today? My day started with a bunch of new saplings sprouting from around my Tulsi plant (which btw I am low-key obsessed with 😛) I celebrate every new leaf 😅! I am so grateful for the few lovely plants that I own, let’s me be in touch with the soil first thing in the morning.

Ditched the crutch! Celebrating 1 month post op and I’m finally allowed to get on a stationary bike 🥳🎉😅To be honest, I’ve never liked these machines - much rather get on a real bike - but right now, I’ll take whatever movement I can get keeping the risk of re-injury in mind. Walking with a single crutch has really messed up my back and my hip flexors are screaming 😅 It’ll take a few days but a little posture alignment therapy, physiotherapy and movement is bound to work!

Sun’s Out, Screws Out! 2 years later, it’s time to close the chapter on the injury - grateful to have gone through the entire journey with a lot of patience, faith, strength and grace. While it made me close some doors, it also opened up some good ones! I was blessed to have a wonderful surgeon, great physiotherapists and coaches, hatha yoga, kriyas, meditations, wonderful friends, a very supportive family - the whole shabang! More than anything, it made me realise my passion for anatomy and the posture-pain connection! I’m looking forward to working on my recovery for the next few months (no Hatha Yoga till September though)! Can’t wait to be stronger and better than before! I’m HATHA!

After quite a rough night at the hospital, I can’t wait to go home in a few hours, shower, sleep and not eat hospital food and enjoy the high from my pain meds 😅

100 steps backwards is worth a 1000 steps forward. Putting money in the bank with walking backward! It may seem silly or useless at first BUT take a deeper look:

Mental benefits include: enhanced sense of body awareness, increased body coordination and movement in space, motivates you to step outside your comfort zone, and sharpens your cognitive control.

Physical benefits include: more strength in lesser-used leg muscles, helps rehabilitate knee injuries, improves walking technique and form, helps with balance, burns calories,
strengthens bones and muscles and elevates the body’s metabolism.

Your body is less familiar with walking backward, so you can expect to get more cardiovascular and calorie-burning benefits in a shorter amount of time.

Easiest way is to walk backwards at your own pace in a safe environment making sure your toes make contact with the ground first as you take your strides (knees over toes). If you have access to a treadmill, switch it OFF, jump on and walk backwards the same way - this is a more controlled setting and a switched of treadmill helps add more resistance. 10 minutes is good to get enough work done.

🛑 Clicked this person yesterday and I’m actually seeing this EVERYWHERE. In fact, you might even be doing this right now! It doesn’t matter how much you exercise or do Hatha Yoga, if you’re doing this kind of stuff for hours for the rest of the day.

Just remember this, for every inch that the head is forward in poor posture, an additional 10 pounds of weight is felt on the cervical spine. The avg. head weighs about 10-12 pounds, just an inch or two forward can double or triple the load on the cervical spine. In this picture, approx 60 degree angle, he’s probably got 60 pounds of load on that spine ! 😱 You end up with overworked cervical extensor and lower trapezius muscles and more, plus your breathing is directly impacted as well as your mood.

Change this one habit next week. If you need to look at your phone, bring it up to eye level instead of looking down at it. Your body will thank you.

Posture, posture, posture! It’s a game changer. Your posture can affect almost every system (respiratory, digestive, lymphatic, and of course MUSCULAR) of yours. This is a picture of my client (1 online session) - after a careful analysis of her condition, a few simple tests and 5 simple exercises that took 20 minutes, here are the results! She’s committed to doing the exercises every day and I’m excited to see how we get her moving and feeling better in time. Now, this may not be the case with every client, but you are very likely to see/feel some visible/physics changes. I love my job - following the 🤗🙏🏻💜

LOVE cooking for ‘s EAT RIGHT program! Best part is, I get to eat what I cooked 🤗 has really laid out the fundamentals of a Yogic Diet so beautifully. We spend a lot of time choosing recipes for our cook-alongs making sure to incorporate his teachings and making sure not to repeat recipes too often. Happy Guru Purnima everyone! It’s been exactly 5 years since I first stepped foot in the .foundation ashram in Coimbatore, India. I was all by myself and I have to say it was quite a crazy day! However, I had gone with 0 expectations - none whatsoever from the temples or the meditators or even Sadhguru. For the kind of person I was back then, I don’t think I would have ever returned to the ashram but Grace works in mysterious ways, obviously! Looking back now, it truly feels like I was “taken care of” that day without even realising it. I have a few memories from that day which always transport me to a very beautiful space. “This is a rollercoaster ride” He says, I’m just glad I get to go on it.
