Juang people of Gonasika Hill range, situated in Keonjhar region of Odisha( India) utilize a specific bamboo made comb . This is ethnically called Katu. It is made of wood, bamboo ,yarn and vegetable gum. The wooden piece of the comb is flawlessly cut with customary themes. Aside from combing, the Katu has other ethnical uses… . Another chief utization of the comb is that a boy offers it to a girl as the confession of his love. As far as the concept of mass egg laying of olive ridley sea turtles is concerned, the million dollar question in this regard is…...

How do these gentle sea creatures navigate thousands of kilometres to find the beach where they were born?
The behavior of these turtles nesting and laying eggs during a particular time of the year and at a few particular beaches in the whole world, proves that they are unique and different from other sea turtles.

Research has shown that if the average temperature on an egg-laying beach exceeds the requirement, the risk of more female turtles being born increases. In the current context of global warming and climate change, there has been a significant change in the proportion of male and female turtles.

One of the most spectacular natural events-the arribada- has already started at Gahiramatha coast of Kendrapada district, Odisha. The beaches have already been taken over by lakhs of visiting mothers in their annual sojourn at Gahirmatha , Astarang etc.

The single-string dhodro banam comes from the Santal tribal community living in few pockets of central India, particularly in Rairangpur locality of Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. Alternatively, it is sometimes known as the santali banam. Related to the sarinda and sarangi, the dhodro banam has a skin covered resonator and is played with a bow.

Let me remind you that in the ancient times , the game CHESS was principally being played by imperial families of BHARAT. During those days, the name of chess was Chaturanga (Sanskrit: चतुरङ्ग).
The word Chaturanga in a real sense signifies "four limbed".The name comes from a fight arrangement referenced in the Indian epic Mahabharata, alluding to four divisions of a military, specifically elephantry, chariotry, cavalry and infantry.

The wheels of the Sun Temple at Konark are additionally emblematic and have been deciphered as the 'Wheel of Life'. They have been extravagantly carved all over which shows the daily lives of people and the societal condition prevailing during those times. They portray the cycle of creation, preservation and achievement of realisation. The diameter of each of the wheels is about nine(2.73 metres) feet and each of them has a set eight equal parts. I think, not even ten percent of the hidden informations have been unfurled till date .The wheels of Sun temple at Konark were being utilised as sundials to calculate time with absolute precision up to a minute both during day and night. The rims are carved with designs of foliages with various birds and animals, whereas the medallions in the spokes are carved with the figures of women in various luxurious poses, mostly of sensual nature. These wheels may also possibly represent the twelve Zodiacs.
I have tried to list out few of the unsolved mysteries of the Sun Temple at Konark (Odisha, India)over which unanimity have not been achieved till date.

People often get confused between folk art and fine art.
Fine art is created for its aesthetic value, while folk art is created for its cultural significance. Fine art is often created for public display. Folk art is often created for practical or decorative purposes within a specific community or region. Here I am attaching figures of tiger in nine different folk art styles of India. Hope, you people would like it. You may like to go through the following article about the rural murals of Odisha.

People born with silver spoon in their mouth may not understand hardship. Dreamers may not understand reality. And selfish people don't understand relationships.

Whenever we put a glance on the festivals map of India, we find a lot many numbers of festivals ( having different names) being observed in different nooks and corners for more or less same purpose . Take for example… Makar Sankranti is known by different names in different parts of India ( like Lohri, Pongal, Bihu etc). Makara is the zodiac indication of Capricorn and Sankranti implies change. *Makar Sankranti* marks the change of the Sun from the zodiac of *Sagittarius (Dhanu) to Capricorn (Makara)*. There are 12 zodiac signs, and consistently, the Sun travels starting with one zodiac sign then onto the next. There are 12 Sankranti in a year, and the chief are Mesha Sankranti (14 Apr) and Makar Sankranti (14/15 Jan).

It is otherwise called *Uttarayana*, as from this day, the Sun begins moving from the southern half of the globe toward the northern side of the equator. The days begin getting longer and hotter, abandoning the chilly dim long evenings of winter. In this context, you may like to read the following article (link given).

What may be the possible reasons for which there are more number of ancient manuscripts/compositions available in Odia language compared to Dravidian languages ( like Tamil, Telugu , Kannada , Malayalam)
despite the fact that they are accepted to be older than Odia and spoken by more number of people?
There were local rulers in Odisha during early medieval and medieval periods( particularly in between 1300AD till 1700AD) and most probably whenever there was a strong local ruler who would understand the importance of cultural heritage and linguistic importance, the language and literature flourishes.

Several times the question strikes to our mind.....why there are 108 beads in a Japa mala ( string used while chanting a mantra)?

The number 108 is also very auspicious in Hindu traditions. For example the individual numbers represent 1 - the one truth, nothing or zero mind and the eternity or infinite (the symbol 8 on its side like this: “∞” ) all pervading nature of the “ultimate truth”. The Mahabharata has 18 volumes. The Bhagavad Gita has 18 chapters. There are 27 stars in the lunar calendar, 12 in the solar calendar and 9 planets. There are 108 peetha in India, 108 Upanishads, 108 marma points on the body. 108 is a number divisible by the sum of its digits (Harshad number). There are 108 nadi or energy lines in the human body. Sanskrit alphabet has 54 letters with each letter having two sides representing Shiva and Shakti.

The diameter of the sun is 108 times the diameter of the earth. Distance between the sun and the earth is 108 times the diameter of the sun. The distance between the earth and the moon is 108 times the diameter of the moon.

Kalinga had close oceanic exchange relations with antiquated Sinhala since sixth Century BCE. The distinctive ancient Ceylonese Chronicles take a notice of voyagers like Hiuen Tsang, Fa-Hien and subsequently the disclosure of coins of Ceylon from Manikpatna of Kalinga and different engravings and artefacts of that period. The most established record of Sinhala language traces all the way back to sixth century B.C as engravings on ceramics . Kalingan maritime merchants were much ahead of their other contemporary explorers and merchants from the vast Indian mainland as far as trading with Ceylon was concerned.According to Garuda Purana and VarahaMihira, Sinhala was one of the significant exchange places of pearl-fishery in the Indian Ocean. Likewise, the disclosure of Sinhalese ruler ShahasaMalla's copper coins from Manikpatna in Odisha , Polonnaruwa in Sri Lanka and Kotchina in Indonesia gives the evidence of a rich oceanic exchange history between Kalinga, Sri Lanka and Sumatra (Indonesia). During the book release function of his book “A Promised Land”, the former President of US , Mr Barack Obama told to the media that the great epics of India “The Ramayana” and “The Mahabharat ” were having great impact over him during his childhood days spent in Indonesia.
Thousands of years back, ancient Kalingan maritime traders were having a very much thriving maritime trading activities with the primitive aboriginals of many different Southeast Asian nations, including Indonesia and the Indian Ocean island nations (such as Mauritius, Madagascar, Seychelles etc.) off the coast of Africa. Credit goes to those ancient marine traders of KALINGA( ancient Odisha) for introducing those great epics , the Ramayana and the Mahabharat in all those distant lands. Long before the arrival of Vasco da Gama in India, the Kalingan maritime trade activitiy was at an all-time high. The success of the Kalingan maritime traders is inexplicable in the discovery of sea trading routes to many territories located in the eastern( like Java,Sumatra, Borneo, Bali islands of Indonesia) and western Indian Ocean ( like Mauritius, Madagascar, Seychelles etc off the African coast) and in the development of trade relations with the indigenous primitive people living there.
As per available archaeological evidence, ships carrying elephants are displayed on the Brahmeshwar Temple walls at Bhubaneshwar and the Sun Temple wall at Konark.
