Moving on from a relationship is one of the most difficult transitions in a person’s life. And while each of us moves on in our own way and on our own time, one truth is almost universal: we all face this challenge at some point in our lives. One thing that we are not is alone in our suffering.

No matter how many people have been down this road before us, this moment we’re living through is probably a painful place to be. One of the best ways to deal with the reality of that pain is to meet it with compassion. Neither denying the feeling nor allowing ourselves to ruminate in it offers us the freedom we need to move on. Instead, we can show ourselves the kindness and treatment that we would a friend – an acknowledgment of what we feel paired with the reality-check that it will pass.

Are you new to marriage and trying to set the right tone for your future? Or have you been married for some time but are still confused about how to be a good wife?

Marriages can be demanding as you are often trying to adjust to sharing your life with your spouse. As a wife, you might be confused about things a wife should do for her husband, and people might offer you confusing advice.

There is a lot of outdated wisdom about what a woman needs to do to be a perfect wife. However, in the new roles that men and women occupy currently, such advice might not be applicable or practical (and might even be s*xist).

But, it is also different in one crucial aspect, which is your right to have the same sort of support and interest from your husband. Marriage is, after all, cooperation on shared goals and visions of the future, not a relationship of servitude.

Given that conversational skills is a must-have in today’s world, I thought it’ll be great to write about how to be a great conversationalist, since I have not written about communication before.

While there is much for me to learn in communication, I’ve been told by friends, acquaintances, and associates that they enjoy speaking to me, and they find themselves sharing personal things that they don’t share with others. I also have drawn-out conversations that can go on forever if not for other appointments.

I don’t think there are any “tricks” or shady techniques you have to apply to be a great conversationalist.

One of the most important relationships in your life is the one you have with yourself. How often do you nourish it?

How often do you make yourself, or your own happiness, a priority? You spend a lot of time giving. Giving yourself to others, your work. Life gets busy and you often put yourself last.

You sometimes commit to doing things you don’t feel like doing.

Some days, you can’t help but beat yourself up over a stupid mistake you’ve made.

You have fear of being judged stopping you from doing and trying things you’ve always wanted to do. Perhaps, you’ve heard the world tell you that it’s “too late” for you to make a change, to try new things, to stir things up.

Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s never too late. It’s never too late to make a change- and all big changes happen with a single step or a small mindset shift.

Gaslighting is a common form of abuse in unhealthy relationships. It can happen in romantic relationships at any age — teenage relationships, adult engagements, and even marriage.

Gaslighting may not happen at the beginning of a relationship. The person doing it may first build trust, which is part of why gaslighting can go unrecognized for a long time.

Studies show that gaslighting happens when people use gender-based stereotypes and other inequalities against their victims to manipulate their reality. In relationships, gaslighting is common in domestic abuse.

Gaslighting is an abusive tactic, meant to make you doubt your thoughts and feelings. It may start in small ways, then grow into a false sense of reality. It can occur in minor incidents, making it so it’s hard to notice there’s a problem at all, especially in a relationship where you trust your partner.

Gaslighting is bad for your mental health. It can make you doubt your sanity and make it difficult to tell truth from lies. It creates unhealthy, co dependent relationships, and it may feel impossible to leave.

When we think about the types of qualities that are essential for a happy and healthy romantic relationship, what comes to mind first?

Love, of course, followed by attraction, communication, caring, trust, laughter. What about patience? Patience in a relationship may not be on that list. But long term couples confirm the beauty of practicing patience in a relationship.

Patience is the ability to wait calmly, to move forward softly towards a goal, to work towards something unhurriedly. Many of us have never thought about the positive benefits of practicing patience in love.

Why is patience in dating a good thing? Why is patience important?

Being patient allows for growth. It gives space, breathing room, a place where your communication can flow easily and thoughtfully.

Once you start practicing the art of patience in your relationship, you will be amazed at how this transfers to other areas of your life, making everything that much smoother.

Body language is a universal way to express yourself, allowing you to communicate without words things like, “I love you,” “I miss you,” or “I need my space.”

While we'd all like to believe that our partner conveys what they're thinking and feeling with words, that's not always the case. If you're getting the idea that your significant other wants out, you need to be not just listening to what they say, but also looking at what their body is communicating. The truth is, body language cues paint a much clearer picture of what's actually going on in a relationship than what is spoken. From the way someone stands to the way they hug, body language can express all the things someone is thinking, but not necessarily saying.

Body language is so important that it can impact a relationship more than words and tone of voice combined. “A lot of people tend to have a much harder time expressing themselves verbally".
“So body language is often a big contributor to keeping the romance alive or killing the relationship all together.”

As a couple, you must be able to talk about all the things. Not just the good things, the self beneficial things, the alike-ness or on-the-same-page things, the white-lie things, the easy things, the comfortable things, the surface layer things, and the consistent Truman Show how-was-your-day-dear things, b also the hard things, the hurtful things, the prideful things, the deniable things, the scary, vulnerable things, the honourable things, the damaging things, the self defeating things, the conflicting things, the disagreeable things and unimaginable things.

Communication won’t thrive under only the best circumstances – it will require going beyond your comfort zone, listening apart from speaking, doing what is right over what is easy and being transparent in order to fulfil emotional intimacy through trust.

It means you are willing to relinquish those negative contributed emotions and allow yourself to heal. In a way, yes, it does often mean letting go of the past. Without genuine forgiveness, it will almost be impossible to feel fully reconnected to your spouse and will drive couples further away.

Nothing is “I” or “me” anymore in terms of marriage. It’s our money, our house, and our life together. While maintaining an individual identity or sense of independence is still healthy, a strong marriage is one where most – if not all – decisions are relayed and considered together.

IN A MARRIAGE
We expect a lot from our partner in a marriage like we should feel connected, we should be more joy able or should be having more fun and enjoyment, our partner should communicate with us or to have more intimacy but in order to get this we don't work on it and then these things get one sided.

One sided approach to maintain a relationship leads to an end of a relationship as relationship is based on 50-50 partnership and not on one sidedness.

In order to build and have a strong relationship one should start doing these things:
1. Open ended conversations with their partners to feel connected.
2. Start spending quality time even if its just an hour, this will help in knowing your partner more deeply.
3. Be more vulnerable towards your partners needs be it physical, emotional or social and start accepting them rather than neglecting them.
4. Go on short dates where you can be alone and communicate with your partner easily, this helps in building strong communication between you and your partner and helps in reducing conflicts in your relationship.

Remember relationship is never one sided you need to work on it every day to make it happen in the best possible way.

We neglect our own needs and we undermined other peoples right to self-determination, the opportunity to solve their own problems and learn from their mistakes. This leads to self-neglect, controlling, enabling, nagging, frustration, anger, etc. We want to shift this so our time, energy, and resources are well spent, so we can solve our own problems, and keep ourselves physically and emotionally healthy.

Many people have no idea that as humans, we sometimes siphon the strength of people who are close to us and use their compassion as rehabilitation centers.
Women feel the brunt of this occurrence when it comes to relationships or through simple friendships with men.

Men expect extreme measures out of women. And we must be strong, provide, care for others’ needs, uphold a respectable image while also maintaining s*x appeal.
If children are involved, then women must be a mother, wife and lover mixed with everything else the world throws at them.
If one of these things goes out of whack, the man will see it and his aggression will bubble to the surface.
Most men are intimidated by strong women because they want to be emotionally stronger than women.
But, in reality, deep down they know that’s not possible.
Men never blame themselves when they’re in rehab. It’s just that the strong women in their lives have broken down.
They see it as her failure and often men can’t see that they are the ones to blame for their problems — so they unleash on the women like a hurricane.

Women get caught up in feelings of love and affection and get blindsided when we know otherwise.

We might not always be able to explain why we're attracted to someone, but there's been a lot of research about why people fall in love.

While some explanations are attributed to social and cultural practices, such as a shared system of values and experiences, others, like the way we smell or our height, point to our biological nature as a reproductive species.

We are all busy. Life happens. There's always something to distract us from getting around to certain things we know we should do.

Soccer practice. Work. Home renovations. Getting that next big promotion.

And with the explosion of always-on smartphones and tablets delivering a fire hose of urgent emails, not to mention Twitter and Facebook (FB), in recent years, things have only gotten busier.

In the backs of our minds, we know we're neglecting some stuff we should do. But we never get around to it.

Then, something happens. A good friend or loved one - maybe close to us in age - drops dead unexpectedly. We begin to think about what our biggest regrets would be if we were suddenly sitting on our death bed.

There are some men out there who are more complicated than you know. They think they’re all that, but they make you fall for their “poor me” act. He might also act like Prince Charming, until he’s got you right where he wants you. If this happens, sorry, but you need to get out. This sums up narcissistic men perfectly.

They act one way, but then do something different. They manipulate and twist everything around until you start to feel like you can’t trust yourself.

Put simply, you’re in deep and you have to get out for your own sake. This is one of those situations where you need to know the signs to be able to know for sure that you have to run.

There are many different types of relationships you will run into over your dating years. Some of them are fantastic bonds that will shape and change your romantic future, but others are painfully irritating reminders that the game of love has many faces.

Keeping your relationship healthy and strong isn’t rocket science. If you both can practice positive habits and don’t let the negatives affect you severely, it is easy to maintain a good relationship.

If you think that your relationship has become unhealthy to the point that you can’t turn it around on your own, it would be better to go for relationship counselling.
