We were planning to organize our 50th Nature Trail on field at Singanallur Lake but considering the restrictions over the pandemic situation, we were unable to hold it on field. Its still going to be special with an international speaker joining us this Sunday (10.01.2021) at 4pm from Stockholm, Sweden who has a great deal of knowledge about Urban Biodiversity!

Mr. Henrik Waldenström - Board Member - The Royal National City Park & WWF - Sweden

He has worked extensively with the formation of the Royal National City Park, Sweden, which is the World’s First National City Park

Singanallur Lake is also on an ambitious path striving to obtain a unique status for protecting Wetland Biodiversity in an urban setting. It is also to be noted that the Lake has been declared as an “Urban Biodiversity Conservation Zone” by Coimbatore Corporation probably the first of its kind in India.

*பதில்* - மியாவாக்கி முறை என்பது செயற்கையான முறையில் இயற்கை காடுகளை உருவாக்குவது. இந்த முறையில் இடத்திற்கு தகுந்தார் போல் எப்பகுதியில் வேண்டுமானாலும் நடவு செய்யலாம்.

*கேள்வி எண் 3* - காற்றோட்டமாக வளர வேண்டியதை விட்டுவிட்டு நெருக்கமாக நட்டால் மரம் அதன் போக்குக்கு வளருமா?

*பதில்* - இயற்கையான காடுகளில் நடைபெறுவது போன்று மரங்கள் தங்களுக்குத் தேவையான சூரிய ஒளி, காற்று, நீர் ஆகியவற்றை தானே தேடி சென்று வளர ஆரம்பிக்கும். இது சுமார் இருபது வருடங்களுக்குள் இயற்கையான காடுகளுக்கான ஒரு சுற்றுச்சூழல் அமைப்பை ஏற்படுத்தித் தரும்.

*கேள்வி எண் 4* - விளம்பரத்திரக்காக 1000-200 மரங்களை நடுவதை விட 10-20 நாட்டு மரக்கன்றுகளை நட்டு பராமரித்தாலே போதும்.

*பதில்* - எங்களது நான்கு வருட அனுபவத்தின் அடிப்படையில் நகர்ப்புறத்தில் அமைந்து ஆமைகள், பறவைகள், பூச்சிகள் என பல்லாயிரக்கணக்கான பல்லுயிர்களின் வாழ்விடமாக திகழக்கூடிய சிங்காநல்லூர் குளத்தில் மியாவாக்கி முறையில் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட காடுகள் மிகவும் பயனுள்ளதாக உள்ளது.

*கேள்வி எண் 5* - இருப்பதை வெட்டி வெளிநாட்டு நடவு முறையை இங்கு அனுமதித்து, என்றோ பலன் தரும் என சிந்திப்பது .... -

During this Lockdown, It looks the Birds are exploring new places to which they can never have access due to heavy human activity or traffic. Normally the Crows are bold enough to forage on roads but here we observed House Crow, Jungle Crow, Common Mynah, Indian Peafowl and Squirrels leisurely foraging infront of the Officer’s Club near The Hindu office!

Transplantation of Elephant Foot Yam Plant / _Amorphophallus paeoniifolius_ to Singanallur Lake

Elephant Foot Yam is a native herb and has a worst scents. The foul odour is to attract more flies that will pollinate the flower

The plant was about to be discarded due to the stinking smell in their colony. With the sincere efforts of Mr.Mahendra Ramdas sir & Mr.Ramesh sir, the plant is transplanted at Singanallur Lake.

The ecology of the plant can be well explained to the school students practically during the Nature Education Programs

Nature trail @ Singanallur Lake on 23 /02/2020, conducted for residents of Oak Canopy appartment! Their enthusiasm was overwhelming! This is cube's second program with oak canopy. We thank them for their involvement and support as a stakeholder and hope to do many more events with other appartments in the future.

A new Species of Grass have been described from Rajasthan and named in honor of our Mentor & senior Volunteer of Singanallur Lake Dr. C. Kunhikannan, Scientist - G, IFGTB. The research article got published in an International Scientific Journal yesterday.

He has been recognized for his exemplary contribution in Plant Taxonomy, Forest Ecology and Biodiversity Conservation
