Professor of Practice appointed for the year 2024. The list of professors nominated for the practice is given in the TNAU School of Postgraduate Studies website. The lecture schedule is also informed through the Microsoft web link.

The guidelines clearly say a formal academic qualification is not considered essential for this position if they have exemplary professional practice in lieu.

Inauguration Ceremony of Infrastructure for Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology : The New Building for the Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology (CoEB) at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University to be unveiled by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru. M. K. Stalin on 13 Mar, 2024 by 11 AM. Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Pro-chancellor Thiru. M.R.K. Panneerselvam, Hon’ble Minister for Housing and Urban Development Thiru S. Muthusamy, Selvi. Apoorva, IAS, Agricultural Production Commissioner and Principal Secretary to Government, and Mr. Kranthi Kumar Pati I.A.S, District Collector, Coimbatore, Dr. V. Geethalakshmi, Vice Chancellor, TNAU, Dr. R. Thamizh Vendhan, Registrar, Dr. N. Senthil, Director, CPMB&B, University officers and students will be gracing this occasion.

HONOURABLE GOVERNOR – CHANCELLOR
INTERACTION WITH STUDENTS AND MEDALISTS of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University on the occasion of 43rd TNAU convocation

In connection with the 43rd Convocation of Tamil Nadu
Agricultural University, the Honourable Governor of Tamil Nadu and
Chancellor of this University visited TNAU on 8.3.2024 at 2.15 pm
and interacted with the students of TNAU for about 90 minutes.
Dr.V.Geethalakshmi, Vice – Chancellor, Registrar, Deans and
Controller of Examinations attended the meeting.
About 150 studentsrepresenting 15 key activities of TNAU viz., PG students who did their research in foreign institutions, students who had undergone twinning program and international internships in foreign institutions,students benefitted by using language labs, drone pilots, students who became entrepreneurs, students who obtained patents, PG and UG students from other States of the country, TNAU award winners etc.,participated in the interaction. The Deputy Secretary (Universities)and ADC to Governor were also present.
Dr. V.Geethalakshmi, Vice –Chancellor delivered a preamble
explaining the purpose of the meeting. Students briefly narrated the work done by them or their experience and also raised a query for the Honourable Governor to share his perspectives. The Honourable Governor briefly commented on the performance of banks and fund flow to the MSME and entrepreneurs and how Direct Beneficiary Transfer revolutionised the economy. He said that in the last few years, Rs 23 lakh crores were distributed to small and medium entrepreneurs under MUDRA scheme. The Jan Dhan, Aadhar and mobile has enabled access to banking for 50 crore people, of which 50 per cent were women. He emphasised on the new trinity, “research, innovation and entrepreneurship” and especially young people should adopt this. Youth should ask, “What I did do to make this country a developed one”.
The Honourable Governor recalled that earlier education institutions were not well connected but now we have more collaboration through MoUs and other means. The interlinking between education institutions and education institutions and industry would enable to develop employable students, ensure research to market connect and also generate need based products and services. The Honourable Governor commended the efforts taken by the University and students for increasing the number of patents and also encouraged to have a target of 175 patents in a year. The students should be strong and never feel handicapped if they are not able to speak fluently. The students should take remedial measures to overcome the lacunae.

The Honourable Governor said that the duty of education intuitions is to create enabling environment so that students could gain communication skill and articulate themselves
3 very well. There will be increase in use of technology for providing quality education for all. On increasing use of virtual and augmented reality technologies for education purposes, the Honourable Governor stated that the pace of change of technologies is ever faster than before. There will be quantum jump with the advancement in artificial intelligence. We have to embrace new technologies to make educationlearner centric and more effective.The Honourable Governor emphasised on the transition to green energy from the use of fossil fuels. A fast developing country needsmore energy. The government has embarked some bold initiatives to gradually replace fossil fuels and has set a target to have 50 per cent of energy from non-fossil fuels by 2030.
The Honourable Governor encouraged students working on
entrepreneurial ventures based on Waste to Wealth concept. The
waste to wealth will lead to circular economy and ultimately ensure
sustainability. The Honourable Governor shared his experience and
ideas with students and also motivated them to become entrepreneurs.He finally stated, “Believe in yourself and the world will be yours”.

National level conference on “Integration of Multi-omics Approaches for Crop Improvements” 2024
A National conference on “Integration of Multi-omics Approaches for Crop Improvements” was organized by the Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University on 4th & 5th March 2024. In the inaugural session, welcome address was delivered by Dr. A. John Joel, Professor and Head, Dept. of Plant Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics, Dr. N. Senthil, Director, Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology delivered the introductory remarks of the conference. The technical sessions by the guest speakers Dr. R. Sowdhamani, Senior Scientist and JC Bose fellow, National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bengaluru presented on the topic “Genomics of Medicinal Plants”, Dr.Shailesh kumar, Scientist IV, NIPGR, New Delhi shared his expertise on “Surge of genomic datasets for the identification of novel RNAs in plants” and Dr. S. Manjula, Scientist F, Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), Tiruvananthapuram gave insights on “Proteome and transcriptome of Piper nigrum”. Dr. M. Raveendran, Director of Research, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore in his presidential address, mentioned the applications of multi-omics approach in crop improvement to enhance the food production. Dr. D. Uma, Professor, Dept. of Plant Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics delivered vote of thanks. Around 200 members were registered including research scholars and faculty members were participated from various universities and institutes across India.

A National level technical symposium “Bioconcorrenza’ 24” was organized by the Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University on
29th February 2024. In the inaugural session, a welcome address was delivered by Dr. E. Kokiladevi, Professor and Head, of Dept. of Plant Biotechnology. Dr. N. Senthil, Director, Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology delivered the introductory remarks of Bioconcorrenza’ 24 and highlighted its history. The felicitation was delivered by Dr. P. M. Murali, Jananom Pvt. Ltd., Coimbatore followed by Dr. Shomita Muhkerjee, Senior Principal Scientist, SACON, Coimbatore. The Honourable Vice Chancellor
Dr. V. Geethalakshmi in her presidential address appreciated the organizers for the arrangements, inspired the young minds by quoting the exemplary achievements done by the TNAU Alumini Scientists, Entrepreneurs and much more in the field of Biotechnology. She also encouraged the students to come up with newer ideas in developing new varieties of crops with a wide range of resistance to pests and diseases. Dr. A. Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology have organized National Science Day 2024 on 28.2.2024 with the theme of Indigenous technologies on Viksit Bharat.

• The National Science Day is celebrated in India on February 28th each year to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect by Indian physicist Sir C.V. Raman in 1928.
• The day aims to recognize and appreciate the contributions of scientists and promote scientific temper in the country.
• This theme tries to answer the critical scientific role and new technologies to tackle the challenges and leading to a sustainable future for a great India 2047.
• School students participated in 7 events and Science Expo under the theme “Science for Sustainable Future”.
• 277 students have participated from 13 schools.
• 17 teams participated in the Science Expo and depicted various working models.
• Preliminary rounds were conducted on 26th Feb for 4 events viz., Essay writing – Tamil, English: Speech – Tamil, English;Quiz; Doodle art
• 17 teams participated in the Preliminary Quiz competition, from which 11 teams were selected for the Finale on 28th Feb.
