🌍💚 World Mental Health Day Celebration at Bamunigaon
We had a wonderful gathering at Bamunigaon to commemorate World Mental Health Day! Organized by Ashadeep, the event brought together a dedicated team from Boko PHC, the Medical Officer of Bamunigaon Model Hospital, and the Child Welfare Officer from the Observation Home, along with community members.
Together, we raised awareness about mental health, shared valuable resources, and fostered a supportive environment for everyone. Thank you to all who participated and contributed to this important cause!
ASHA Workers Training in Kokrajhar!
We wrapped up a productive two-day training program - Counselling Programme on Mental Health with North East Research and Social Work Networking (NERSWN) for 40 ASHA workers in Kokrajhar. The participants were highly engaged, and a special thanks to our resource persons, Chandrama Das and Barsha Borthakur from Ashadeep, for their valuable contributions!

58 students from Gauhati Commerce College’s (GCC) MBA department came to Ashadeep Day Rehabilitation Centre for a one day visit. They conducted an art competition for the day residents and a cultural programme where students from both GCC and Ashadeep participated and showcased their talents, taking a step forward towards inclusion!
Special athletes from Ashadeep who participated in the Special Olympics Bharat's National Championships of Bowling and Bocce, got featured in the renowned daily - the Assam Tribune today. We are proud of them!
Students of Ashadeep have excelled at the National Championships of Bowling and Bocce held by Special Olympics Bharat. In Bowling, Nirupam Dey won gold in the male doubles category, under Coach Parashar Kashyap.
In Bocce, under the guidance of coaches Fardeen Rehman and Saraju Bhuyan, Anudhriti Saikia and Anamika Deka secured gold in female doubles, while the mixed team comprising of Ashadeep's Kabir Pritam Baruah, Anamika Deka, and Anudhriti Saikia also won gold. Additionally, Kabir Pritam Baruah earned bronze as part of the male doubles.

A batch of students from West Guwahati College came to Ashadeep Day Rehabilitation Center for a day’s visit. They spent their time learning about neurodiversity, disorders, and inclusion, and doing fun activities with the day residents.
Two of our colleagues from Ashadeep, Sangeeta Deka and Chandrama Das, attended a vital Workshop on Su***de Prevention, organized by the Azim Premji Foundation in Bengaluru. The session was led by the esteemed Dr. Lakshmi Vijayakumar, Psychiatrist and Founder of SNEHA, an NGO in Chennai dedicated to su***de prevention.

19th of August, 2024 marked the launch of our first therapy sessions under Ashadeep Rural Special School's Composite Care - Therapy Unit. We held four therapy sessions. This initiative by Ashadeep aims to provide therapeutic interventions for children with special needs in the rural settings of Assam. The sessions were successfully conducted by our skilled therapists, Loni Kalita and Saddam Hussain.
We are happy to embark on this journey and look forward to the positive impact these sessions will have.
Nursing students from the NEF Institute of Nursing, Asian Institute of Nursing Education,Guwahati,Assam and Arya Nursing College got an opportunity for hands-on practice with the population of Ashadeep Day Rehabilitation Centre, Guwahati, and Ashadeep, Bamunigaon, bringing their skills and knowledge directly to our community.

Yesterday, on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day of the nation, the Bamunigaon campus celebrated Independence Day with great reverence. The ceremony commenced with flag hoisting, followed by a speech delivered by Uttam Mahato a resident of Udayan and another eloquent address by Debolina from Shared Home. The occasion was marked by a profound sense of patriotism and unity.

For the occasion of pre independence day celebration at Ashadeep Day Rehabilitation Centre, our students took part in a drawing activity where they put their creative minds to work to make the Indian national flag 🇮🇳
A session on hair grooming for lice removal was conducted by a team of interns interning under ASHADEEP. The session aimed to address the itching and discomfort experienced by residents of Navachetana.
Conducted by a team of interns - Nilakshi Borgohain, Harsh*ta Deka, Niharika Rabha, Dhanistha Kalita, Darshanika Baishya, Somiwon A. Shatsang, and Ansikha Das. During their internship at ASHADEEP, the team noticed residents of Navachetana struggling with itchy scalps. They organized an awareness session on hair grooming and lice removal.
Session Highlights-
Residents were educated about lice, their causes, and proper hair care, including oiling, combing, and washing. Demonstrations were given, and combs were provided for borrowing.
Responses-
Reactions varied: some residents engaged positively, while others were less responsive. Despite these differences, the session was productive and informative.
We thank the interns for their initiative and wish them all the best.

Two senior members of Ashadeep Ms. Chandana Sharma and Ms. Lisali M. Humtsoe has attended the 4th International Conference of The Banyan on "Mental Health, Homelessness and Inclusive Development" at Chennai.
They participated in the panel discussion and took Ashadeep's "Home Again" journey to the colloquium stage with immense pride.
The four- day event was filled with senior academicians from the New York University Silver School of Social Work, Boston University, University of Glasgow, Southampton University, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, DY Patil University, and Madras School of Social Work; mental health professionals and bureaucrats from multiple states and sites of India and abroad, for instance Sri Lanka and Africa; and models from across the Global North were introduced, starting from NYC's Housing First to Italy's the Trieste Model.
Ashadeep's Interns from University of Guelph (Canada), Dibrugarh University, Christ University (Bangalore), The Assam Royal Global University, St. Jospeh's College of Commerce, Girijananda Chowdhuri University, Amity University, Mount Carmel College and Assam Don Bosco University conducted Awareness sessions on topics 'Financial Literacy (Money Concept and Buying & Selling Items)', 'Time Concept', 'Healthy Vs Unhealthy Foods', 'Importance of Saving the Environment' and 'Identifying Emotions' at Ashadeep Day Rehabilitation Centre..
A Workshop was conducted on Nutrition for Children with Special Needs, for the caregivers and the teachers of Ashadeep Day Rehabilitation Centre. It was delivered by Ms. Divya Sood (a Certified Child Care Nutritionist, B.Pharm).
A workshop was delivered by Ashadeep's Psychologists at Manja Mohongdijua High School, Karbi Anglong, under Community Mental Health Programme. A total number of 140 students participated. By the end of the workshop DASS-Y Screening was conducted amongst the students.
Ashadeep's Interns from Mizoram University, USTM, Tripura University, The Assam Royal Global University, Christ University, Mount Carmel College, Banaras Hindu University, NIMS University (Jaipur) and NEF College conducted Awareness Sessions on Cleanliness, Basic Manners and Menstrual Hygiene for the Day Residents of Ashadeep Day Rehabilitation Centre.
