Happy to share that a case which me and my team managed at was published in today’s Times of India paper.
This highlights that even educated patients can present late, as in this case a PhD student who came with a 4.5 kg phyllodes tumor.

Witnessed such a heart- warming scene in the chemotherapy day care today when I went to visit one of my breast cancer patient. Her daughter (3.5 years) was giving her company during her chemo infusion and playing a board game with her. She was continuously trying to make her mom laugh while playing the game.
Just goes to show how sensitive & understanding kids are. Sometimes patients try to hide their diagnosis from them but I feel kids are smart enough to understand that something is wrong and they do their best to provide support during their therapy.

Over the years, I have seen that a good social support system correlates with positive treatment outcomes in breast cancer, and it significantly reduces the stress emanating from cancer diagnosis and as clinicians we should discuss this aspect with our patients as well.

Coverage of a case which I had operated last year in TOI. Young patient with a large phyllodes tumor of the breast, detected during early first trimester. With the support of Dr Aruna Taneja and Dr Abhishek Bansal, patient was operated during the first trimester. She delivered uneventfully this year and is breastfeeding through the operated breast as well. Kudos to the amazing teamwork at CK Birla Hospital Gurgaon

One of the largest phyllodes tumor I have seen in my practice. I just hope this creates more awareness amongst patients and they report to us with smaller & more manageable breast lesions.

Tumor clipping in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy before surgery (neo adjuvant chemotherapy)

In certain breast cancer patients chemotherapy is given before surgery. In some of these patients the tumour responds completely to chemotherapy (complete response). In order to know the original site of the tumor (to facilitate surgery) a clip is placed under image guidance. A mammogram is done to document the position of the clip after the procedure.

Each one of us derives motivation from different sources. For me the biggest source of motivation on a daily basis are my breast cancer patients.
There is nothing more inspiring to see their transformational journey from diagnosis till the end of treatment. One such story is of Pankhuri ( ), a young girl with oligo- metastatic breast cancer. From the first time I met her till now, it has been a roller coaster ride for her but she has taken the entire treatment in her stride & with a smile.
Whenever I interact with her, she talks about the future & the things she wants to achieve, places she wants to visit and the lives she wants to touch.
Another inspiring thing about her journey is the strong family support from her sister & mother, who have been omnipresent during her treatment sessions / surgery admission.
Still on treatment, she is back to Netherlands pursuing her job & her passion for travelling. She recently shared a picture of her witnessing the northern lights.
Thank you for inspiring me & hundreds of cancer survivors Pankhuri. More power to you!
