Spiritual & Historical Significance Of Sri Jagannath's Rath Yatra ~ Hari Bol 🥳🥺🙌🏻
Spiritual Significance - On the day of Rath Yatra, devotees come together and chant the divine name of the Lord. They pull the chariots with enthusiasm and love in the heart for their beloved Jagannath. The purpose behind this ritual is to awaken the divine within. according to Puran Lord Krsnā resides in our mind but due to our ignorance and attachment to the worldly life, we forget this truth. This festival reminds us of our divinity and by chanting Lord's divine name, it enables us to evoke the divine within.
Historical Significance - According to Srimad bhagvat Mahapurana, To kill Lord Krishna and Balarama, Kansa, their maternal uncle, invited them to Mathura. Kansa sent Akrur with a chariot to Gokul. As asked, Lord Krishna, along with Balarama, sat on the chariot and left for Mathura. The devotees celebrate this day of departure as Rath Yatra.
The Vibrant Chariots of Lord's - The major attraction of the Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra is the vibrant chariots in the procession. The preparation of the chariots starts from the day of Akshay Tritiya.
There are 3 main chariots - Nandighosh : the chariot of Lord Jagannath,
Taladhwaja : the chariot of Balarama &
Padmadhwaja or Devadalana : the chariot of Subhadra.
which are pulled by using a long rope (raase).
On this day, the wooden chariots are decorated with beautiful flowers and are lined up in front of the main temple. These chariots are made as to the replicas of the temple & symbolize the perishable human body and highlight the truth of life.
