The 10 Greatest Sins of (yes, they’ll cost you big)
This , it’s time to let go of things holding you back.
If you’ve made these mistakes, it’s time to change.
➡️ Handing out your business card without being asked
This is the biggest sin you could make while networking.
It is an absolute no-no if you want to build a strong .
The instant your business card is involved, the relationship is transactional.
➡️ Talking more than you listen
The fastest way to lose interest? Monopolise the conversation.
No one cares who you are if you can’t make it about them.
Take an interest in people, and they will instantly like you.
➡️ Going in with a transactional intent
You may be looking for opportunities, but don’t be desperate for them.
People will see through it if you aim to ‘get’ something out of a conversation.
And it is a bad look you don’t want to have when building strong relationships.
➡️ Failing to follow up properly
You met, you connected, and then?
Crickets. No follow-up, no relationship.
➡️ Prioritising quantity for quality
There’s no point in having 100 connections who don’t remember you.
Instead, focus on building 5 strong connections—people who trust you.
Your network should be deep, not necessarily large.
➡️ Treating networking like an interview
Going into networking events with your pitch ready?
You’ve missed the point. Build rapport, not a pitch deck.
➡️ Networking only when you need something
Don’t be the person who shows up only when in need.
Relationships are built over time, not at the last minute.
➡️ Ignoring the power of personal stories
People remember stories more than stats.
If you aren’t sharing a compelling narrative, you’re forgettable.
➡️ Focusing on people you think can “do something” for you
Stop judging people by their title or role.
Everyone has something to offer.
Network without a hidden agenda.
➡️ Network outside, never inside
True networking stats from within, then with your closest circle.
Once you have that centred, then go into an open network.
Always put the most effort into getting close to home first.

So, I asked, "Why?" The reply was, "If I write a book, I become an authority."
Instead of being excited too, I felt a bit stressed. Why?
Because many people think that just writing a book makes you an authority.
That's when I stepped in, "No, no, my friend. Writing a book doesn't automatically make you an authority."
