It was a beautiful privilege to have supported and uplifted the journey of breast cancer survivors here at Radon Cancer Centre Hubballi. 🌸

On 21 of Oct 2023, Radon Cancer Foundation Association with Happy Heart Foundation, and Niyaaz Group of Hotels, conducted Free Cancer awareness and screening camp for the employees at their Belgavi branch.

141 employees were screened for oral cancer
62 women were screened for breast cancer and 38 women were screened for Cervical cancer with PAP test.

October- Pink Month for Breast Cancer Awareness

Every October, the world turns pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a global campaign dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer and encouraging early detection and treatment. Radon Cancer Centre proudly joins the global community in supporting this vital cause, advocating for education, prevention, and support for those affected by breast cancer. In this blog, we will delve into the significance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and how Radon Cancer Centre is contributing to the fight
against this prevalent disease.

Breast cancer is a commonly found cancer in women that starts when cells in the breast begin to grow uncontrollably.
These abnormal cells can form a lump or mass, which is commonly referred to as a tumor. If left undiagnosed, untreated, breast cancer can spread to other parts of the body through blood vessels and lymph vessels. Early and regular screening followed by respective treatment and certain changes in the lifestyle habits are crucial for a better chance of successful outcomes.

From being fourth in the list of most common cancers in India during the 1990s, Breast cancer has now become the first. The global burden of breast cancer is expected to cross 2 million by the year 2030, with growing proportions from developing countries.
Breast cancer incidence rates within India display a 3–4-fold variation across the country, with the highest rates observed majorly in metropolitan cities such as Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and New Delhi. About 1.3 lakh fresh cases of breast cancer are reported in India every year; a decade ago the number stood at 54,000. An increasing trend in incidence is reported from various registries of National cancer registry project and now India is a country with largest estimated number of breast cancer deaths worldwide.

Hence, it's important to understand that October is a special month dedicated to raising awareness about the critical need for early screening in breast cancer. During this month, educators, healthcare professionals, and organizations come together to emphasize the significance of regular screening, highlight advancements in diagnosis and treatment, and share this vital message with younger generations. This collective effort aims to empower individuals with knowledge and encourage proactive steps towards breast cancer prevention and early detection.

That’s the power of early detection. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide. The good news is that when detected early, it is highly treatable. Breast Cancer Awareness Month serves as a reminder to all women
(and men) to perform regular breast self-exams, schedule mammograms, and seek medical attention if they notice any changes in their breast health. Early detection can significantly increase the chances of successful treatment and survival.

Early warning signs of invasive breast cancer Symptoms more specific to invasive breast cancer are:
• Irritated or itchy breasts
• Change in breast color
• Increase in breast size or shape (over a short period of time)
• Changes in touch (may feel hard, tender or warm) • Peeling or flaking of the ni**le skin
• A breast lump or thickening
• Redness or pitting of the breast skin (like the skin of an orange)
“Breast cancer doesn't discriminate; it affects both men and women”
Yes, you read that correctly. There have been documented cases of men being diagnosed with breast cancer. In India, in comparison to the incidence rate of breast cancer in women, approximately 0.5-1% of the male population has received a diagnosis of this condition. According to a study conducted by the Cancer Research Centre, breast cancer in Indian males tends to manifest at a relatively early age and often exhibits an aggressive nature, with most cases being detected at Stage III or IV.
