Considering research for your future goals, but don’t know where to start? Don’t worry, we have got your back. The Materials Society brings you an interactive session RESEARCHX, by Darsh*t Trevadia.

Darsh*t is a Y19 student who has recently completed his Bachelor's degree in just 7 semesters. He is an Incoming Research Fellow at Nanyang Technical University (NTU) Singapore. NTU Singapore is ranked three in Materials Science by QS World Rankings.​

In the session, Darsh*t will share his journey to pursue his research goals and gain his spot in NTU, how projects helped him gain skills for the domain and imparted clarity to pursue this. So, those who are considering research in future goals, do attend the session and get a chance for one on one interaction with him.Details for the session are as follows:

Unveiling the beginning of The Materials Society at the event Nucleation - an introduction to the community. Also marking the first time presence of MSE UGs and PGs under the same roof in the light and wisdom of our professors.

The event was hosted by the conveners of the MatSoc Society. The professors namely, MSE HOD - Dr. Kallol Mondal, DORA - Dr. Kantesh Balani, Dr. Shikhar Krishn Jha, Dr. N.P. Gurao addressed the students to grace the occasion. There were several cultural performances by the students to enrich the ambiance. The faculty advisor of MatSoc, Dr. Shikhar Misra concluded the event.

Greetings Everyone!

There has been a lack of connection between students and the department, so the idea to create a department society came forward. Our seniors nurtured this idea under the guidance of Professor Shikhar Jha, which took its shape but came to a halt due to the pandemic. After normalcy has returned in our lives, a dedicated group of students, once again under the direction of Shikhar Jha Sir, has been working for the past few months to revive this community.

We are reinstituting as The Materials Society - MatSoc, with sheer enthusiasm and sole focus on creating a home for the department students. The baton of guidance has now been passed to Shikhar Misra Sir. A team of 4 UG Conveners and 3 PG Conveners is currently leading the society - Ojsi Goel, Naman Jain, Mohan Misra, Harsh Agarwal, Shirish Chandrakar, Akhila Mudupu, and Kamlesh, respectively,

Heartfelt thanks to Shikhar Jha Sir for motivating us, imparting clarity to our mission and ideas, and making this society an emotion for us. Special thanks to our seniors - Anshika Choudhary, Akshat Goyal, Darsh*t Trevadia, and Vishrant Dave who took the lead in reviving the community and passing on the vision to the new team.

MatSoc is of the students, by the students, and for the students. Alumni have a vital role in sharing their wisdom and experience with the students. The last-minute advice that a senior can give to his/her junior will always be invaluable.

Hence we request all of you to welcome MatSoc with all your heart and contribute to us in accomplishing our goals.

With the spring semester underway, some of you must be wondering how to apply for and secure good research internships. One of the most important steps in the application process for the same is writing an SOP (Statement of Purpose).​

Keeping this in mind, MSES brings you it’s first session: SOP making by Nivedita Vij, Y16 BT-MT (dual degree) MSE. She received the SN Bose scholarship in her third year and interned at Harvard University in the following summers. The session will also cover some details regarding the application procedure and timeline to apply for higher studies.
