Shanti Stupa is a Buddhist white-domed stupa (chorten) on a hilltop in Chanspa, Leh district, Ladakh, in north India.It was built in 1991 by Japanese Buddhist Bhikshu, Gyomyo Nakamura and part of the Peace Pagoda mission. The Shanti Stupa holds the relics of the Buddha at its base, enshrined by the 14th Dalai Lama.The stupa has become a tourist attraction not only due to its religious significance but also due to its location which provides panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Since its inauguration, Shanti Stupa has become a popular tourist attraction. According to The Hindu it is the "most famous tourist attraction" around Leh, though its architectural style is different from the Ladakhi style.The Shanti Stupa overlooks the city of Leh, providing panoramic views of the city, the village of Changspa, Namgyal Tsemo in the distance and the surrounding mountains. Sunrise and sunset are considered to provide the best views from Shanti Stupa.The stupa is illuminated with lights at night. The stupa is open for tourists between 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.

And Ladakh finally happened!

Even after more than a decade of riding in the Himalayas and Mountains of India, the 'Ride to Ladakh' always eluded me. It needed time, money, energy, courage and good company.

The long awaited trip finally happened this month as I rode across high Mountain passes, lakes, remote villages and surreal landscapes for almost two weeks completing the Ladakh Circuit: Delhi-Jammu-Srinagar-Kargil-Leh/Ladakh-Manali-Delhi. I was also fortunate to ride to the top of Umling La Pass near Hanle in Ladakh - the highest Motorable road of the world at almost 5800 metres.

I have been to several corners of our country, but the Ladakh experience was very unique, memorable and surreal. It's the 'Mecca for Riders' and roads like this are enough to explain why Riders flock to spend the best days of their life in this wonderland.

More plains, originally called Kiang Chu Thang in the local language, is a plateau on the Leh–Manali Highway. Kiang Chu Thang means a plain where the kiang does not find water. It occupies 40 km of the highway between Leh and Pang. The plateau has an average elevation of 4,800 metres
