Snow leopards are one of the world's most elusive and least understood big cats, nick named as Ghosts of the Mountains. Majorly found in the core of Himalayas. They have densest fur of all the cats, having about 25000 hair per square inch. These hair help them survive the extreme cold. They have longest and thickest tails of all the big cats, which can grow up to 90% as long as their bodies. The tail acts as a balancing tool and balances them when they chase nimble and agile prey down the mountain cliffs. They are Crepuscular creatures, i.e., they are more active hunters during the twilight.
One might think that Snow leopards are directly related to the normal leopards, but the fact is that they share common ancestors with tigers.
According to International Union for Conservation of Nature snow leopards are listed as vulnerable to extinction, due to shrinkage of natural habitat and reducing number of their prey, caused by human invasion.

The Giant Malabar squirrel is one of the largest squirrels species in the world. Unlike the regular squirrels, they are huge in size, measuring up to 3 feet long from head to tail and weigh in at around 3 kgs. Impressively, these giants are capable of jumping 20 feet between trees. One more striking characterstic of these giant arboreal rodents is their vibrantly coloured coat which varies from deep red to brown and light brown on the ventral side.
Malabar giant squirrels are endemic to India, their range spans the western ghats, Eastern Ghats to the satpura ranges.
Also they have an unusual method of storing their food, instead of storing nuts and seeds in larders underground, the Indian giant squirrels create caches of food high up in the treetops.
According to IUCN, these giant squirrels are classified as Least Concern and widespread throughout its range but their numbers are decreasing due to factors such logging and construction of dams.

The vibrantly coloured Himalayan Monal is the State bird of Uttarakhand. It is also the National bird of Nepal, where it is known as 'danphe'.
The male Monal, decked out in all the colors of the rainbow, is the image of iridescence, with metallic green crested head, red neck and coppery feathers on the back and tail, while the female as in other pheasants, is more subdued in colour.
They are native to the Himalayan ranges and can be found at altitudes ranging from 2400-4500 meters and they descend down to 2000 meters in winters. Their curved bills help them to dig through the snow to obtain plant roots and other insects, which are a major part of their diet.
On the IUCN red list, it is listed as Least Concerned. The main threat to the species is poaching, as its crest is valuable. In the western Himalayas, the local monal population responded negatively to human disturbance involving hydroelectric power development.
