INTRODUCTION to RADIOGRAPHY:

1.DEFINITION: Radiography is a medical imaging technique that utilizes X-rays to create images of the internal structures of the body. It is commonly used to diagnose and monitor a wide range of medical conditions, including bone fractures, lung infections, and tumors.

2.PURPOSE: The primary purpose of radiography is to provide healthcare professionals with detailed images of the internal structures of the body, aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions. Radiographs can reveal abnormalities such as fractures, dislocations, tumors, infections, and foreign objects.

3.HISTORY: Radiography was discovered by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen in 1895 when he accidentally observed that a fluorescent screen in his laboratory was illuminated by invisible rays emitted from a cathode ray tube. This discovery, which he called "X-rays," led to the development of radiography and revolutionized medical imaging.

4.EQUIPMENT: Radiography requires specialized equipment, including X-ray machines, which produce X-rays, and detectors, such as film or digital sensors, to capture the images. Additionally, protective gear such as lead aprons and thyroid shields are used to minimize radiation exposure for both patients and technicians.

5.PROCESS: During a radiographic procedure, the patient is positioned between the X-ray source and the detector. X-rays pass through the body, and the amount of radiation absorbed or scattered by the internal structures varies depending on their density and composition. The resulting shadow image captured by the detector is then processed to produce a radiograph, which can be viewed by healthcare professionals.
