He is the son of the late Ustad Ghulam Jafar Khan, a prestigious sarangi player.

Backstage just before my performance at Jashn-e-Adab on 30th October, I had a memorable meeting with very eminent Actor and Director Saurabh Shukla bhai after long gap.
Saurabh bhai hails from a music family himself as his father Shri Shatrughan Shukla was a Hindustani Classical Vocalist and his mother Smt. Jogmaya Shukla ji was the first ever female Tabla Player of India.
Both his parents were close friends and colleagues of my late father Ustad Ghulam Sadiq Khan, at Faculty of Music and Fine Arts, University of Delhi.
