Always been a fan of hard light and out of the studio shoots. The plain paper backgrounds get boring and everything seems to look flattering in soft lighting. Here’s when a location adds a different flavour and some hard light adds the missing edge.

I shot these with the Nanlite Forza 60B II with the PB-FFM projection attachment and combined it with some strobes. Trust me the possibilities with these are limitless. Drawing lines and deciding how much is enough is something more people need to practice.

For me creativity soars when less is more especially in the realm of lighting. I mean the creator didnt create the earth and put 2 or 3 suns out there to light it, did he? So unless I am on Tatooine - a planet in Star Wars which has 2 suns - I’ll try and have 1 light do all my sculpting and moulding.

I would sometimes get my picture through the camera viewfinder or then inside a picture I already took. This crop with an almost brazen and raw feel to it was hard to miss albeit in an almost full length frame.

The reason I haven’t posted much about this tour of mine into Lahaul - the valley of the glaciers is simply because it’s ineffable. My eyes, my whole being was inadequate to take in the experience of the grandeur that this place is. The mammoth mountains, the azure blue sky, the relentless rivers, the scorching sun and the merciless water crossings were just something to be experienced. There have been so many times I wrote a post and deleted it, put up a story and didn’t post it until now. Now I feel not sharing anything about it is doing it gross injustice. Here is a feeble attempt. Couldn’t have imagined doing it without and his super power to gauge water (pic 7) and on nothing else except my ♥️

With His Holiness Dalai Lama. I wasn’t quite able to decide what the highlight of my trip across Himachal would be. Well doing Spiti and the fabled Kaza to Manali road was definitely one of them (not east AT ALL). What tops it all I think is this meeting at McLeod Ganj Dharamshala. What are the chances that such an opportunity shows up when I’m around the precinct? Surely an opportunity of a lifetime. Thank you for making this happen for me.
