A tribute to tradition

The 3.5 km2 site that hosted the 11th Nanjing Horticultural Expo in 2018 is now a leisure park combining horticulture and culture with an ecological and educational focus. The park features 13 beautiful gardens showcasing classical Chinese architecture recreated with modern building materials, including a pagoda roof designed to accommodate a tiled roof. Zinc's malleability and prefabrication capabilities allowed for the creation of ridges and imitation of grey tiles with PIGMENTO® grey. Zinc's versatility and chameleon-like qualities are highlighted. The use of zinc in ancient Chinese architecture pays homage to traditional forms while incorporating modern elements such as LED lighting.

The Tivoli Friheden stage
The new stage, designed by architects Gjøde & Partnere, is a mixed-use building with a modern stage, restaurants, and a perforated zinc skin that transforms the building into a "fantastic object set in a garden."
A perforated zinc skin reconstitutes the cylindrical volume cut by the
opening in the stage. In front of the restaurant areas, it forms a shade
that protects from the sun and a cozy atmosphere for
restaurant guests.
The curved shape of the zinc cladding, obtained by folding the
panels, is reminiscent of the fluting of classical columns, and more
particularly that of the famous truncated column of the Desert de
Retz, near Paris, is another ‘folly’ that has shaped the history of gardens.

VMZINC was delighted to participate in the World Architecture Festival (WAF) 2023, which took place in Singapore from November 29th to December 1st. The company showcased its latest innovations in zinc architecture on Stand C40.
VMZINC also had the opportunity to present a tour of the Esplanade Theatres on the Bay, a project that used VMZINC zinc cladding. The tour was led by Cheang Mei Ling, an architect from DP who worked on the project as well as Patrick Bellew , the engineer from Ateiler Ten

The building was designed by two architectural firms working in conjunction: DP Architects (DPA) of Singapore.
The Design Consists of VMZINC - standing seam roofing, bull nose, and soffit. It has two rounded space frames fitted with triangulated glass elements and VMZINC QUARTZ-ZINCPLUS. The advantages of steel Malleability and strength as a base to receive VMZINC cladding far outweighed GRC or any other material. It also offered us the advantage of site fabrication and robust structural connection to predetermined nodes in the building face.

Offices in a metal strip
The office extension in Antwerp, designed by Conix Architects, embodies the revival of an industrial site dedicated to metal transformation. Its expressionist shape resembles a giant metal strip surging out of a rolling mill. The strip is designed to house the administrative departments of the company, and the light travels across the open spaces, revealing the gable walls. The strip is a symbol of the site's rebirth and also expresses the flexibility and recyclability of zinc.
