Uncovering the events that happened exactly 79 years ago :- It was on this day, 30 December 1943, that a national flag was hoisted for the first time on Indian soil, at Port Blair, registering the event in golden letters in the saga of the nation’s freedom struggle.

Netaji escaped British surveillance from Kolkata on 16 January 1941 and stepped back on Indian soil after nearly three years, at Port Blair Aerodrome on 29 December 1943 at 11:30 am and unfurled a National flag the next day. He reached the islands as the Head of the Provisional Government of Azad Hind and Supreme Commander of the Indian National Army marked a symbolic fulfillment of his promise that the Indian National Army would stand on Indian soil by the end of 1943 therefore on December 30, 1943, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose hoisted the national flag for the first time on Indian soil, at Port Blair & announced the islands, the first Indian territory to be freed from British Rule.

This day reminds us of the values enshrined by Netaji himself, “Nishtha, Kartavya aur Balidan” that continue to underscore the ethos of the Indian Defence Forces and the resolve of the Indian Soldier.

This historic visit also marked a declaration of Andaman and Nicobar Islands as the “first liberated territory of India”.

Chhath Puja is a Hindu festival predominantly observed in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Jharkhand. The festival is dedicated to Surya (Sun God) and puja is performed to seek blessings from Surya to live longer, healthy and prosper all through the life.

According to a belief, Lord Rama and Mother Sita fasted and worshiped the Sun God on the day of Kartik Shukla Shashthi i.e. Chhath, on the day of the establishment of the kingdom of Rama after conquering Lanka. Also, Draupadi and the Pandavas used to observe the Chhath Puja to regain their Kingdom and resolve their issues. Another legend says that Karna, who was Lord Surya and Kunti's son, used to perform the Chhath Puja. He ruled over the Anga Desh, the modern-day Bhagalpur in Bihar, during the age of Mahabharata.

Dhanteras – The Day to Invite Prosperity and Wealth Into Our Lives

Dhanteras also known as Dhanatrayodashi or or Dhanvantari Trayodashi is the day when Lord Vishnu incarnated as “Dhanvantri” – The father of Ayurveda from the churning of the ocean (samudramanthan). It is also the day when Goddess Sri Lakshmi appeared out of the same ocean during the churning that was undertaken by the devas and the asuras.

Dhanteras is celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in the month of Karthik.

The festivities of Diwali begins with Dhanteras and the worship of Goddess Lakshmi. This day is a celebration aimed at increasing wealth and prosperity. Dhanteras engages themes of cleansing, renewal, and the securing of auspiciousness in the form of Lakshmi.
