La Ultra
World's cruelest race (55, 111, 222, 333, 555 k), held in Ladakh (Indian Himalayas) since 2010 • A Come join us, and discover the true you.
We were told in 2009 that this was an impossible, hence we did it, making Impossible yell I'm Possible. La Ultra is run in LaDakh, the high altitude desert in the Indian Himalayas. 3 high mountain passes fall on the route that are all in excess of 17,400 ft, leading to oxygen in the air, as less as 60% lesser than in the plains. Within a matter of 7-8 hrs, temperatures could vary from minus 12°C t
La Ultra - The High was conceptualised in 2009 and the very first edition was organised in 2010 in Ladakh in the Indian Himalayas. It isn't about running, but about life. We started off with 222 km but by the 10th edition, we had also come up with 555 km category along with introducing 55, 111, 222 and 333 km.
Come join us for chitter-chatter about running Ladakh at 6pm today at Herb Kitchen, DDA Squash & Badminton Stadium, Siri Fort Road, Delhi. We would love you to gloat away to glory about your accomplishments at LaDakh, as tiny miny as they might have been. 🙂 And come along too if you are a nut case wanting to do the same in near or distant future.
If you’ve either run in Ladakh or dream to, come along for a evening of stories of taking on the high altitude challenge with a low attitude. Ladakh is second home to us both.
Shikha Pahwa has been running in Ladakh since 2016:
- 42k, Khardung Challenge (72 k) & Silk Route Ultra (122k) in 2016, 2017 & 2023 respectively
- 111 k twice & 212 k at La Ultra in 2018, 2022 & 2019 respectively
Dr Rajat Chauhan, founder of La Ultra - The High, has been making people run there since 2010, with 111, 222, 333 & 555 categories. Last year he even had 11, 22, 33 & 55.
We’ll get you started, but then the idea to chitter-chatter, sharing all kinds of experiences, and how the mountains allowed to us pass through, because in the land of Lama, you simply can’t be a Gama.
Join us at Herb Kitchen for a chitter-chatter (111% free), and you can also order & try tasty, yet healthy meals & beverages (totally on you)!

We are getting a lot of queries regarding the dates of the next edition of La Ultra.
We are taking a break from organising La Ultra as an event in Ladakh or other sister events elsewhere.
Over the years, La Ultra has become synonymous with making Impossible Possible, that too with a smile. Now our mission is to make everyone a La Ultra practitioner. And it's not just about running. Running is a vehicle to get on the journey to make a bigger difference in life both for yourself and everyone around you.
Our very first initiative is to empower 4,500 girls from the lowest socio-economic strata in Haryana by getting them to start running. We'll indirectly be affecting 40,000 family members.

I was too late trying to make a change at Ashoka University.
Sheldon picked it up from there. But then again, some people are otters, whereas others are rocks.
With SwaTaleem the idea is to empower 4,500 middle schools girls from the lowest socioeconomic strata, using Running as a vehicle.
Be a part of the move-mint.

Running for empowerment:
When young girls are taken out of playgrounds and forced into gendered family roles, they lose out on a lot more than the health benefits that come with sport and exercising, leading to long-term negative effects.
For this reason, I've been trying to make a difference at institutions like Ashoka University, Wynberg Allen School, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy etc. But girls here are fortunate to have been born into well to do families.
Girls born into poor families who are first-generation schoolgoers are a lot more disadvantaged. To address these issues, La Ultra is collaborating with SwaTaleem, a non-profit organisation, which works towards providing better life opportunities for such historically underrepresented rural adolescent girls in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs, central government-run secondary residential schools) in Haryana and aiding them in attaining their full potential as young women. We will empower 4,500 girls by getting them to start running. Since girls become anchors in the transformation of their families and society, this means that we will be working with more than 40,000 beneficiaries.
Lets together make this a better world. It needs to start with girls and women because they are the nucleus of a just, fair and inclusive society.

Sometimes in life, there comes a date that never repeats itself. As a matter of fact, each date is like that, but who cares. For now, let's celebrate Do Bara Do Do.
Jindgi Do Bara to ayegi nahi. Malum nahi, kal ho ya nahi. Aur kal ki kal dekhi jayegi.

What's happening at La Ultra? — Keep Miling & Smiling On a regular basis I am bombarded with questions: When is the next La Ultra? Will you have 222, 333 and 555 categories? Will you still keep the shorter versions like 11, 22, 33 and 55? What about 111? What next? I answer all that and more.
La Ultra is super unique because a lot friends & well-washers from all walks of life come together to make it happen. This is R**t, who has is one of the youngest crew members who (along with her mom ) helped with preparing the yummiest trail mix, which somehow most participants at April 2022 edition didn’t get to taste. Thanks a million miles to this Mom-Daughter La Ultra duo.
And, no, La Ultra isn’t just about running long, it’s about doing more than what you thought you were capable of doing.
