FEW THINGS TO CHECK OF SLAB FORMWORK BEFORE PLACING THE REINFORCE

1 First check the quality of shuttering plates. It must be of regular in size Avoid using plates with uneven surface and damaged edges. If plywood is used, it should be of BWP grade.

2. Check the Slope and level of formwork of each slab panel.

3. The size of the formwork of each slab panel must be checked along with diagonal of slab formworks as per Approved drawings.

4. Position and level of beam bottom supports should be with respect to the depth of the beam.

5. Joints of beam bottom should be properly propped so that formwork doesn’t bulge during concreting.

6. Before providing beam sides, level of the beam bottom should be checked.

7. After levelling of beam bottom bracing should be provided.

8. The plumb of beam sides at each end should be checked with the help of line dori. Shuttering of beam column junction should be in plumb and watertight.

9. Formwork joints in beam sides should be taken at the end of beam.

10. Wooden props should be avoided as far as possible. Wooden props, if used, check for soundness, proper sizes, plumb and see that they are not butt spliced.

11. Props must be braced in both directions by tubes and fixed couplers.

12. All the props must be kept vertical by providing wedges and cross bracings. Do not use bricks or blocks below props to adjust height. Slant props is to be avoided

13. Minimum spacing between props should be 0.60m (2.0′) center to center in case of wooden props and M.S. props.

14. Proper camber should be provided as per drawing particularly in large span beam at the center and in case of cantilever beam at the end.

15. M.S. props must used when height of the staging is more than 3.6m (12′).

16. Remove all the debris e.g. dust, paper, leaves, chippings of woods, nails, reinforcement wastage, soil particles a and before placing the concrete , sprinkle water over the shuttering of the slab.

17. Shuttering oil shall be used on shuttering plates in order to remove the formwork after concrete gets strength.

18. Ensure the steel props shall be tightened properly.Check whether the nut-bolt/shuttering clip is properly tightened or not.

19.Slab plates should be supported by 3″x3″ chavis at 2’0″ (0.60 m).distance center to center.
