Anticipation: The number of repeats often increases from generation to generation and is associated with earlier onset and more severe manifestations in successive generations. This phenomenon is referred to as anticipation. (Means the Grandson would manifest more severity of the disease than brother of a affected male. The number of repeats increase during oogenesis in Fragile X syndrome.) The affected male transmitted to her daughter( who has no or very mild symptoms). She then gave her X chromosome to her son, who now bears more number of CGG repeats (full mutation) and thus severe disease. Women with the pre mutation have an increased risk of having a child with fragile X syndrome. By contrast, the premutation in men does not expand to more than 200 repeats as it is passed to the next generation. Men pass the premutation only to their daughters.
