Love is a gesture of the heart, of sympathy. With Love, we develop the ability to “SEE” the child in a given situation.

Authority calls for objectivity and fairness, a gesture of antipathy, an ability to distance yourself from the situation and see it for as it is, without attaching your feelings to it.

Just by definition, this is not easy! Come and explore how we can bring love and authority together as individuals and as parents.

Gabor Mate
In this series, we look at some parenting techniques or wisdom, from the lens of child development, given by Rudolf Steiner; while we also take a peak inside us to see how the concept relates to “who we are”. We are also inspired by the works of Kim John Payne, Emmi Pickler and Gabor Mate.

Our small coworking space meets parents who like to work in the vicinity of their children. The space design gives parents enough distance, to find work focus and enough fluidity to nurture their children during breaks. Children feel safe and secure in a calm playarea, adjacent to their parents’ work desk. Both parent and children find their peers, and a work day flows joyfully without the push and pull between the child and parent’s agenda.
We are currently used by work from home mom & dad, mothers transitioning back post maternity break, single parents, parents with single children.

To be able to be around their nurturing parents for a large part of the day, gives a young child a sense of security, that grows into healthy adulthood. For parents, finding focus in work and adult interaction, in a busy caregiving stage of life, gives them joy and fulfillment.

You may feel in spite of your rewards and threats, children do not respond to these statements. Children don’t understand cause and effect before they turn 12, when these faculties start developing.

If they at times comply, it is because of their love for you (to please you) or out of fear of not being loved.

When I was teaching Grade 1, a girl in my class, always wanted to know whether she was a good girl or not…
Look how I drew beautifully as you said “I am a good girl na”,

Look I am standing straight as a tall tree
“I am a good girl na.”

It turns out in her last place of education- good girl was used as a ‘gentle’ reinforcement of lining up to expectations.

It took me months for me to help that girl find her own truth, and the teacher after me many years to nurture her beautifully to how she has blossomed into her own self today.

This card today explained this beautifully to me, in a few words.
