Negotiation?

If you are a sales professional, it is really important for you to know about the major aspects of Negotiation as far as B2B Sales is concerned .

Do your homework. Research well about the customer and your competition there before going to the meeting .

Don’t make any assumptions .

Avoid any prejudice for anyone who is part of discussion.

Believe that negotiation is not about someone whereas it is about something.

Ask the customer first to disclose his or her expectations on pricing .

Be open to listen and understand the perspective of other person in a poised manner .

Be assertive not aggressive. Don’t loose temper if things don’t go your way during the discussion. Politeness is the key here .

Be clear on your best and last offer .

Keep the discussion open if doesn’t end up in your favour. Express your sincere gratitude to the customer for sparing valuable time and consideration on your proposal.

Negotiation is when it is a win-win situation for both the parties involved in the discussion .

Is it really price?

Why does the customer not buy from you if your price is higher than that of the existing supplier or service provider to the customer?
You may say, it is obvious that higher price is the only reason of not buying your product or service, but it is not.

The reason is that you are not able to establish CREDIBILITY of your company or yours before the customer.

That’s why the customer makes an opinion and doesn’t accept your product or service as premium one over the other cheaper products or services available in that particular market and put you in the same league.

The common mistake that most of the sales persons make is not doing any follow up with the prospective customers which denied to buy their products and services in the past because they did not have requirements of that particular product or service at that given point of time .

As a proficient sale person , we need to understand that the situation may change as the time passes . Therefore regular follow up is mandatory with each prospect whether we are able to meet the requirements of the customer or not at any given point of time because requirements of the customers may change in the future enabling us to sell our product or service there .

Hi All ,

Do you know what is the right way to deal with the customer's complaint given that the customer is very egoistic ,often lose temper and may shout at you while speaking to you ?

If yes and you have managed such situations in a sustainable manner , then you are really a winner .

Here it comes a role of Emotional Intelligence .

There are 9 steps to deal with such situations if you are in sales .

Step 1:Face to face discussion with the customer without assuming anything.

Step 2: Show empathy.Ask the customer to explain on the problem from his or her perspective.

Step 3: Listen to the customer carefully. Don't interrupt the customer in between whether the customer is speaking to you in formal tone or shouting at you.

Step 4: Be polite and apologise to the customer for the inconvenience caused and use statements such as "I agree", "you are absolutely right".State your understanding about the matter and get the customer's confirmation.

Step 5 : Don't try to justify what has happened.Rather try to find the immediate solution to address the complaint.Mention remedial action and ask the customer if he or she is fine with that .

Step 6: If the customer does not agree with you on the given solution,make a request to the customer itself to suggest the way forward on the matter.

Step 7: Find the solution mutually.Express your gratitude to the customer for the business association with you .
Step 8: Don't forget to take action on the discussed solution and document it writing an email to the customer after the meeting.

Step 9: Discuss with all the stake holders internally in your office.Take precautions to avoid issues in future.
