House of Parita

A young woman's journey that along the foothills of the Western Ghats, to family run farms and forests deep within the original 'Land of Coconuts' - Kerala.

A #backtotheroots initiative to revive an ancestral, natural and sustainable lifestyle.

It's 01.45 A.M. Another night. Same hustle. We got to keep on keeping on. When your self-funded / bootstrapped and moonlighting as an entrepreneur after your regular job, going for a drive and a tea with your 21 month old - only something you truly believe in can keep you up and chugging along.

But tonight's a bit special for us. At this very moment, five of our bottles are on the move to four different states up north. Its nothing within eyeshot compared to what the big players do. But for us - THIS.IS.SWEEET !!!

Thank you ! Truly humbled !!...
Gonna hit the bed with a smile on our face now...😊

Our first review on Amazon when we started off. Having a one year old ourselves, and how careful we are to pick and choose anything and everything for that bundle of joy - there's a special joy when we get a mum's feedback. Even more so, when its from an educationalist for mums-to-be.

Thank you for all your love and support that you give us till today ! We are also super proud of the work that you are putting in to create awareness and thereby empowering mothers and parents-to-be !! Much love ❤

The WHY? The HOW ? And the WHO ARE YOU REALLY ?! - More than a decade back when these pics were taken near daddy's farm, no one had even the remotest thought about a business, let alone anything about coconut oil.

But the past couple of years, our personal desire for a healthy and sustainable lifestyle as far as possible brought us here, where we are today. And it is this journey, which we believe we must perhaps share a little of, before we move forward on our journey - the origin, the reasons, who we are, and why this is more than just something to make money of for us.

Sure, you heard that a million times and more. But nevertheless, it was a journey we promised. And not a marketing account. And it cannot be as such without you knowing all the in's and out's, if we are to genuinely undertake it together.

So here's to the next couple of weeks to a little behind-the-scenes 🎬

It is just over a year since we listed ourselves on Amazon. It has been slow and steady. Slow and steady is good - This is what we have learned over and over. Organic growth ? Perhaps. Only time will tell.

What has been most encouraging though has been the feedback we have been getting from you, and the fact that most of you are returning to reorder. That is a validation in itself.

Thank you. You know who you are. Thank you too, for those who have taken the time to share your thoughts with us.

Walks on the countryside, amidst farms and fields are as serene as they come... Hopefully one day, sooner rather than later, we can invite you to our own..

'Practice what you preach' - that simple statement we have heard countless times since childhood. At House of Parita, we strive to stay true and practice those values we have spoken so much about. And walk the talk.

Thank you, for all of you who have shared with us, about how you liked the bag and how you are reusing them for storing everything from mobile accessories and what not. It leaves us with a very warm feeling...

"Wondering what a brownie is doing here? Well, there's something we are happy to share!! We have been bombarded with orders since the past few days and the current batch of House of Parita's cold pressed virgin coconut oil is getting sold off at a heartwarming and surprising pace 😁. We have never ever seen this kind of surge in orders till now! Thank you !!

So if you plan to grab a bottle soon before stocks run out, please keep in mind that our next batch is currently scheduled only for the end of July.

Now about the brownie 😌. ..
We have been super humbled to keep receiving great reviews from you guys and this surge in orders seems to be more validation of that. So we could not help but celebrate this a little bit at home !!

(PS: The brownie was made from using our cold pressed VCO instead of vegetable oil; and that with those little pieces of crispy moist cocoa in the mouth were 🤤🤤🤤)"

It is heart warming to see all your reviews of our cold pressed virgin coconut oil!🌞 that are coming in... Finally all that hard work to keep quality as priority is bearing fruit!
It has become a multi-purpose oil in most of the households where we have delivered  and our customers have been messaging us and asking for more bottles to keep in stock.

The most common comment we get from them is that, it is non-greasy and has a light aroma unlike the ones available in the market!😁. It is obviously our favourite comment as well.

As we move ahead with the manufacturing of the next batch 🌴 🚜 , we would like to express our sincere gratitude on how incredible the responses have been and you taking the time to share it with us! Indebted !!
It encourages us to move ahead with the line of products that we have in our minds, irrespective of the numerous road blocks we have been facing this past year!
Thank you for all the love♥️

Light a candle instead of cursing the darkness , someone once said...❤
'The desire to start House of Parita grew stronger during a flight to India, when my grandmother was critically ill. She suffered from multiple myeloma and was breathing her last then. It was heart breaking to lose both my grandparents to cancer. They played a huge role in raising me and they took huge pride in supporting my education. They always said education would light up my life, and provide access to various opportunities. True, I did recieve a lot of opportunities in the corporate world then, but now a burning desire grew within to go into farming after the demise of my grandparents. The root cause for their cancer was possibly the heavy contamination of pesticides in their food. I wish I had known back then that leafy vegetables can also do more harm than good!
You see, at my ancestral home in Kerala, India - all our food and cosmetic needs were homegrown in our fields except for only onions and meat. But these fields were soaked in pesticide, as we were not aware of the extent of the dangers then. As far as my grandparents were concerned, it was the most effective way to protect our crops.
Fast forward to now, and the worst part, the alternative - 'organic' food - is way too expensive. So in order to save money, for most people it seems better to consume whatever they get even if it comes with pesticide residue in it. And just hope it will be fine.

No human being should suffer or eat food with pesticides or other harmful chemicals, due to the size of their wallet.
That is why our initiative is also to make our products affordable for all, as far as possible, and not charge an outrageous amount due to the word " organic" labelled on it. It will take time. No doubt... Hmm..
I feel deeply grateful to my grandparents for driving me to 'educate' myself. That education continues now today , although slightly differently, as I push this initiative to turn , reading about it as well as revisiting with my mother, our childhood farming and homemade cosmetic lessons. Our very own little, sincere way to light candles in the darkness...

Little did we know, years ago, when we took this picture around our family farm, that this would be where our journey would begin.
Sometimes things just fall into place...

'Our commitment to transparency' - While it sounds cliche and overused - its importance cannot be understated.
After all, one of the main reasons that got us started on this journey, was our lack of trust in most brands and products, and the twisting marketing jargon. And then the countless scandals we hear, every other day, about harmful chemicals and adulterated and contaminated products even in well-known brands did not help either.
Which is why, at House of Parita - we have not only voluntarily tested our oil at the Quality Testing Laboratory of the Coconut Board of India, we are also sharing its results, without anyone having asked for it.
We intend to walk our talk. To go that extra mile. To truly take you along, on our journey .

From to and the rest of the world.

American women use an average of 12 products a day – nearly 200 chemicals – according to a 2004 study by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), a non-profit environment and health advocacy group. Another survey, conducted by a beauty retailer in 2016, found women averaged 16 products a day on their face alone.
“Cancer is on the rise, infertility is on the rise, allergies in children are on the rise, and people can’t figure out why,” said Nneka Leiba, the director of healthy living science at EWG, which has been monitoring chemicals in cosmetics for over a decade. “The increases are not just due to genetics and new diagnostic techniques.”

Quite simply. The essence and foundation of all that we are trying to achieve with our journey .
A reference point. A simple, basic quality management filter as a first step. If it can't be done, it wont be sold.
And we are happy to say that the voluntary tests we undertook from the Coconut Testing Board of India, and a private laboratory have vindicated those efforts. More on that in the coming days...

Small business weekend hustle !
It's been a quiet few weeks online, and you will soon find out why. But offline we have been super busy with a new project 🎉 and with our daily jobs, the weekend is when the hustle is bang on to transition full-time to our project.

Happy to share with you that our cold-pressed virgin coconut oil is available now in 'A little piece of heaven' babyshop, located adjacent to Bismi Hypermarket on Coimbatore road, Palakkad, Kerala.

Eco-friendly Reusable jute bag packaging : Our small contribution to minimize waste, doing-our-bit as they say, to help preserve the environment consciously. One product at a time.

Behind-the-scenes: It was only when we had our first batch produced and ready - with us thinking we finally got where we wanted to with our product in terms of quality, the environmentally friendly glass bottles instead of plastic, the voluntary lab tests and certifications that we undertook successfully to ensure transparency, that maybe it was time for a little relaxation finally - It was then that it dawned on us that we could not use the standard packaging if we really wanted to go that extra mile, and truly walk the talk about our intentions to turn . Jute bags are what caught our hearts. Enter a cousin who in our childhood memories would stitch bags at home. But that's a story for another day.
We believe it's been a slow but good, decent start and judging by your opinions and feedback that have been coming our way these past few days as we launch off, we are truly thankful.

- Years ago when our father bought this farm at the foothills of the Western Ghats in Kerala, India ; noone had ever imagined that this would be were our journey would begin to turn . If you asked us a year ago this time, it was still the same. But weeks later by the end of September 2019, we could see our path between the trees. Or should we say - right on top of it! Quite literally.
!!

08/09/2020

It has been quite a journey so far trying to keep that message not just as a hashtag for marketing, but to walk the talk and stay true to the course. And then with the course of events related to the pandemic, we were affected just as everyone else.
Everything grinded to super slow mode. Our bottles stuck in another state. Our oil now in our store. Our labels in yet another city. And all throughout coordinating this we needed to ensure no corners were cut that would affect our product nor its quality, whilst respecting and following government and health authorities protocols.

We often had to remind ourselves that we have only just gotten started, and the road is long as entrepreneurs and that too as a couple. There was only one way. To ride it out. Slow and steady. And we are glad we did. For the purpose was always clear.

And we are extremely happy and pleased now to finally inform you that it is turning out even better than we hoped for. We have just signed an agreement for exclusive distribution rights with a supermarket chain for our cold-pressed virgin coconut oil for all of the GCC countries and Malaysia, beginning with the first batch to UAE.

Thank you for all your encouragement and support - including those who have been writing to us personally. We look forward to share more on the past months in the days to come...
