Baba Banda Singh Bahadur and his soldiers withstood the Mughal siege at Gurdas Nangal for about eight months.

During the siege on both these occasions, the Mughal siege was so stringent that not even a blade of grass could pass to the besieged army.

As the Sikhs did not want to retain territories, the Sikh army had returned to Punjab after the Mughals had paid heavy tributes to the Sikhs.

When some people of Sadhaura, which Baba Banda Singh Bahadur had occupied after defeating the Mughals, once came to him complaining of the harsh and unjust practices of the rich, instead of helping them, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur ordered opening fire at them. When they were surprised, Banda Singh Bahadur told them that they deserved no better treatment and were fit to die only as in spite of being thousands in number, they allowed themselves to be cowed down by a handful of the rich. The message was loud and clear. Such a revolutionary was Banda Singh Bahadur; he had revolutionised the minds and hearts of the poor against their oppressors in no time. Reaching home they turned the tables on their oppressors.

When in Mughal captivity, Mata Gujri refused to accept food from the Mughal kitchen, Baba Moti Ram Mehra, a Mughal kitchen servant, brought milk from his home to the two little sons of Guru Gobind Singh.

Consequently, Moti Ram Mehra, his wife, grandmother, and a little son were sentenced to death by the Mughals by being squeezed in a Kohlu (oil press). The two steel glasses from which the two children of the Guru drank milk are kept in the Gurudwara Amar Shaheed Baba Moti Ram Mehra.

Wazir Khan, the Mughal governor who had bricked alive the two little sons of Guru Gobind Singh was beheaded by Baba Banda Singh Bahadur in the Battle of Chappar Chiri (Mohali in Punjab) and his headless body was hung upside down from this tree which still exists at the site.
