Whenever there is the talk of healthy food choices and which oil is good for health, you must have definitely come across the term cold-pressed or virgin or extra-virgin oils. Cold-pressed oils, also known as virgin, pure, or cold-drawn oils are considered to be the purest forms of edible oils and good for health. Chemical methods are used for the extraction of branded refined oils. They could have harmful effects on heart health. Today, we will talk about the benefits of cold-pressed oils and consider the top reasons why you should make a switch to these oils in your daily cooking.

🌼The process of oil extraction:🌼
It is easier to understand the benefits of cold-pressed oils by understanding the oil extraction process. This process is the key to preserving the nutrients in edible oils.

🌼Extraction process of refined oils:🌼
The typical industrial or commercial oil extraction process begins by using a mechanical extractor for pressing the constituents followed by chemical extraction.

The mechanical extractor presses the oilseeds (sesame, groundnut, sunflower, mustard, or rapeseed) or coconut pieces to make a ‘meal’ or ‘cake.’
The ‘meal’ is subjected to very high temperatures (up to 270°C) to start the oil extraction process.
Solvents such as hexane and petroleum ether are used to extract oil from this ‘meal’.
The edible oil dissolves in the solvent passed through the ‘meal.’
The oil plus solvent mixture is then subjected to degumming/neutralization/washing procedures.
The resultant oil is bleached to attain uniformity in color.
It is finally deodorized to remove any odours.
Cold-pressing process:
The process of cold-pressing to obtain oils is very simple.

Oil is extracted by using a ‘Ghani.’ It has a mortar and pestle kind of arrangement. The oilseeds or coconut pieces are ground or pressed without application of heat. Hence the method is known as ‘cold pressing.’
The resultant oil is filtered and ready to use.
🌼Top 10 reasons why you should switch to cold-pressed oils:
Taking into consideration the harmful effects of the commercial extraction process and the benefits of cold-pressed oils, here are the top 10 reasons for switching to cold-pressed oil:

Commercial processes make use of very high temperatures, which results in the loss of antioxidants like tocopherols and sterols. This process also produces free radicals and trans fatty acids (TFA), and polymeric components. All of these are potentially carcinogenic (cancer-causing) agents. The free radicals can cause other illnesses like Alzheimer’s. Cold-pressed oils are devoid of free radicals. The cold pressing process doesn’t produce any free radicals as heat is neither applied externally nor generated.
High temperatures used to produce refined oils destroy Vitamin E and beta-carotene in the oil. Cold pressed oils retain all the healthy qualities of the oilseeds. Vitamin E has anti-inflammatory and healing properties.
Solvents like hexane and petroleum ether can have deleterious effects on the human body if the solvent plus oil mixture is not properly processed. Hexane can cause depression of the central nervous system and dermatitis. Cold-pressed oils do not need such harmful chemicals for production.
Sometimes for the commercial production of palm oil and coconut oil, a process of degumming involving the addition of phosphoric acid is required. Degumming removes the calcium and magnesium salts of phosphatidic acid. Virgin Coconut oil is made from the first-pressed milk extracted by cold pressing coconuts. This milk is then fermented for 2 days to turn into oil which is then filtered. No degumming or any other process which results in the removal of healthy vitamins and minerals is used to obtain cold pressed oils.
Caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) is used for the neutralisation process of refined oils for removing free fatty acids.
Acid-activated bleaching earth or bentonite is used for the bleaching process in manufacturing refined oils

The cold-pressing method retains the natural healthy antioxidants in the oil, which are otherwise destroyed by heat.
Cold-pressed oils are a rich source of oleic acid and lauric acid, which are great immune system boosters.
Cold-pressed oils improve the good cholesterol or the HDL in our body and act as carriers to aid in the removal of the bad cholesterol or the LDL from our body. Refined oils leave our body with no cholesterol.
Cold-pressed oils help in energizing the body. After regular consumption of cold-pressed oils, users have seen an uprise in their overall energy levels.
A discussion about the benefits of cold-pressed oils cannot end without talking about the benefits of cold-pressed virgin coconut oil for weight loss.

The cold pressing process retains the essential antioxidants and vitamins.
Lauric acid present in coconut oil helps to kill harmful pathogens like bacteria and viruses. This essential component is lost in the commercial oil extraction process and retained during cold pressing.
Coconut oil contains a type of fat known as medium chain triglycerides (MCTs). These fats are converted to ketones in the liver.
Ketones have a powerful effect on the brain, therefore their long-term use can help treat conditions like epilepsy.
When the body goes into ketone metabolism, weight loss becomes easier because appetite is reduced on a ketone diet.
Studies have shown that MCTs can help boost brain function in Alzheimer’s patients.
Several studies have shown that coconut oil consumption is good for heart health since it helps raise the HDL (good cholesterol) levels in the body.
Indian cooking processes subject oils to very high temperatures. Coconut oil is very stable when heated to high temperatures due to the presence of short and medium chain fatty acids. Hence it is recommended for deep frying.
Cold-pressed virgin coconut oil retains all the essential nutrients and is healthy for the skin, hair, and teeth.
The cold pressing process retains the antioxidants and essential vitamins in the oil.
Organika offers an impressive collection of cold-pressed oils, including cold-pressed sesame oil, coconut oil, and cold-pressed groundnut oil. Reap the immense benefits of cold pressed oils without losing the taste. SWITCH TO A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE by using cold-pressed oils in your daily cooking!!

Oil massages are an interesting part of our Indian culture. They developed during the time when the Ayurvedic way of treatment was evolving. It is believed in Ayurveda that regular massage, using the right oils and the right techniques, can help achieve good health and longevity. In recent times, various types of massage techniques such as Kerala Ayurvedic, Swedish, Thai, Shiatsu, and Reflexology, have taken prominence. They are often promoted commercially as exotic indulgences to relax the mind and the body.

Best Oils for Oil Massage:
Fractionated Coconut Oil, Sesame Oil, Jojoba Oil, Sunflower Oil and Almond Oil, all are highly suitable for oil massages. Other oils include, Avocado Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Olive Oil and Cocoa Butter.

Let’s look at some of the therapeutic benefits of oil massages.

Detoxification
This helps the body purge out the toxins. This is usually an extensive process which includes oil massages and is often recommended with meditation sessions. Thus the massage also helps in reinvigorating the mind.

The main aim of this massage is to ensure that the oils pe*****te the layers of the skin deeply. This encourages both arterial and lymphatic circulation which eventually allows the toxins to be released.

Mind relaxation
A good head and face massage can really calm a tense mind. An experienced masseur’s rhythmic movements stretch the muscles around our face, eyes and over the skull. This greatly improves the blood circulation and relaxes the mind. It also soothes the tired eyes, which in turn improves the general alertness of the individual. A relaxed mind definitely gives a natural glow to the skin.

Exfoliation and skin texture
Regular facial massage will ensure that the dead cells of our skin do not stay behind. Regular use of oils cleans up the clogged pores and nourishment of the cells improve. The natural texture of the skin becomes soft and supple, thereby reducing wrinkles and signs of stress.

Relief from body pain
Certain natural oils have analgesic properties and when applied to the body especially the affected areas they can alleviate the pain. However, an experienced and trained masseur is a must. Someone who understands the remedies well and also understands both the nervous and muscular system is the right person. A well trained masseur can relieve the pain by lubricating the joints, freeing up the muscles and channelizing the nerve ends. Kerala ayurvedic massages have found quite a fan following with respect to joints and back pain relief.

Additional Benefits: Weight Loss
Obesity is now the new age lifestyle epidemic. Strict diet plans and boot camps often lead to drastic reduction in weight but they are all short lived. Once their effect wears off, the stubborn fats begin to build up all over again.

There are many different medicated oil massage treatments which can help in this aspect. The emphasis is to reach the stubborn fat zones in your body, directed massaging to loosen them up and encourage melting them away. Frequent sessions not just reduce weight, it also helps maintain it.

These are just a few benefits of oil massage but the list is quite exhaustive. Depending on whether you are looking to pamper yourself or looking at a life-changing regimen, the world of massage has a solution. Be wise and look for a licensed operator and you will be surprised at the remedies and their results. Wishing you a healthy and happy life!

If you are a food lover, then you might have come across the term cold pressed oils. People are becoming more conscious about what they eat and the concept of ‘eat right’ is gaining prominence. Hence cold pressed oils are becoming popular among food fanatics. However, there are many myths about cold pressed oils which need to be busted. For this you need to first understand what exactly cold pressed oils are, and how are they made.

Cold pressed oils are produced using age old oil processing techniques. Perhaps you have heard the word ‘ghani’ from your grandmother. In earlier days, people used to extract oils from different seeds using a ‘ghani’. ‘Ghani’ is nothing but a sort of mortar and pestle stone. However, over the years this was taken over by modern extraction machines that use heat to extract oils from different seeds. The process is quick but it lowers the quality of the oil. With the application of heat, the oil loses its nutrient value and antioxidants that are good for health.

In cold pressed oil processing, the extracted oil is cholesterol free, unrefined and unprocessed and retains all the natural antioxidants of the oil that is good for health. It is also devoid of harmful solvent residues. If you are planning to switch to cold pressed oils from your normal cooking oil, then here are some myths and facts that will help you make an informed decision.

Here are top 4 myths about cold pressed oils and the actual facts related to these myths.

Myth #1: Cold pressed coconut oil is high in cholesterol
Fact: Coconut oil contains medium chain triglycerides which contribute towards increasing the good cholesterol level in the body. If you are looking for cold pressed coconut oil with extended shelf life, then choose Organika Virgin Coconut Oil. It is prepared from fresh coconut milk and not dried copra powder. Hence, the oil lasts longer and has a fantastic shelf life compared to any other cooking oil.

Myth #2: Cold pressed sesame oil is not suitable for Indian cooking
Fact: Cold pressed sesame oil has the highest smoking point among all oils and hence it is suitable for deep frying. Buy best quality sesame oil at Organika Cold Pressed Sesame Oil

Myth #3: Cold pressed groundnut oil could not be used for deep frying
Fact: Cold pressed groundnut oil has a high saturation point and hence can be heated up to 230 degrees Celsius. However, to retain their natural taste, it should be heated carefully. Buy Organika Cold Pressed Groundnut Oil to add flavor and texture to your dishes.

Myth #4: We cannot find authentic cold pressed oils online.
Fact:Organika is a well-known brand for cold pressed oil, and we offer the same authentic cold pressed oil for our online customers. Our cold pressed oils are extracted using Vagai wood press which is the best way to extract oils and are absolutely chemical free. Various chemicals are used during refining which demean the taste, texture, and aroma or natural oil. Plus, plenty of chemical substances are introduced which stay in the refined oil as residuals. On the other hand, cold pressed oils retain their natural goodness and are devoid of any chemical residues.

Things to remember while choosing your oil
Most of the store-bought oils are refined. Many brands claim in their labels as “physically refined”. Stay away from such tags if you are looking for cold pressed oils. It is always better to opt for brands that say “extra virgin” or “cold pressed” in its labels.

If your family is still not exposed to cold pressed oils then introduce it slowly instead of making a drastic change to their taste buds. They have lived all their lives eating food cooked with refined oils. Cold pressed oils have distinctively different taste and aroma which could be little strong to them. So the trick is, introduce it to them slowly. Give them time to adjust to the new taste. Here’s an idea: start by using it in tadka, then to curry and then once your family completely adjust to it, you can make the switch.
Cold pressed oils are nothing new. They have been there since ages but got lost in between, thanks to their cousin – refined oil. However, it is gaining back its lost charm and people are growing conscious to make a healthy choice. By shifting to cold pressed oil, you not only improve your health but also reduce your carbon footprint on the earth!

Massages are soothing and healthy for your baby — and you might just enjoy them, too. Using the right oil for your baby massage can make all the difference. Massage oils help protect your baby’s soft, delicate skin and moisturize at the same time.
• Coconut oil
• Almond oil
• Sesame oil

Tips on giving your baby a massage
1. If you haven’t used a certain kind of massage oil on your baby before, do a test patch the day before. Rub a small amount of the oil on the inside of your baby’s elbow or on their stomach. Check the area in an hour or longer for any reaction.
2. Make sure the room is warm enough to remove all your baby’s clothes except their diaper.
3. Undress your baby and lay them on a soft but firm surface so that they’re facing you.
4. Warm up the massage oil slightly before using it on your baby. If it’s not too cold, you can leave it at room temperature and just warm it up by rubbing your hands together.
5. Talk to your baby and show them that you’re rubbing your hands, so they know the massage is about to start.
6. Gently place your hands on your baby’s tummy or chest.
7. Massage their tummy and chest with clockwise circular motions.
8. Move on to your baby’s arms or legs. Hold their wrist or ankle to support their arm or leg as you massage.
9. Use gentle strokes with your hands or just your fingers touching your baby’s skin. Stroke their limbs and body in the direction of their heart.
10. Use your fingers only to gently massage your baby’s neck, face, and head.
11. Turn your baby over and massage their back.
12. If your baby gets upset or too wiggly, stop the massage (it’s hard to handle a slippery baby!).
13. If your baby falls asleep, stop the massage.
14. Leave the massage oil on after the massage and dress your baby. The massage oil will help moisturize and soothe your baby’s skin.
