This Indian eagle owl, initially unable to fly due to damaged feathers, underwent feather imping at RESQ Wildlife TTC. Feather imping involves replacing broken feathers with healthy donor feathers. This procedure accelerates recovery, reduced captivity time, increasing the chance of successful release. A young female leopard was discovered in a dull state, barely able to walk by the locals near Saswad and reported to the Forest Department who immediately alerted us. Our team, safely captured her and transferred her to the RESQ Wildlife TTC where she was administered treatment and fluids. Almost instantly, she started to show us a good display of her wild side, which was our cue to plan her release. Two leopard cubs had fallen in a well near Satara and were rescued by RFO Navale and the Satara Forest Department. A young female leopard was hit by a vehicle near Ashtapur, Pune District. ****The Pune Forest Department immediately arrived at the location and ensured that the leopard remained undisturbed by the public until the emergency rescue and veterinary team arrived. The leopard sought cover under a car parked nearby until our team got there at midnight and extracted her out safely. The RESQ team received a rescue call from the Koregaon FD regarding a distressed monkey. However, upon their arrival, it was discovered that the monkey had already perished. Meanwhile, the FD received another call and immediately informed the team about a jungle cat that had fallen into a nearby 40 ft well. Promptly, the team sprang into action and executed a successful rescue operation by lowering a trap cage. With minimal coaxing, the cat willingly entered the cage, which was then raised to safety. A lone Gaur safely and successfully translocated to a forest where he can thrive on with his own kind! A few months ago, a Gaur had strayed in an agricultural area in Pune District and unfortunately, in the past few weeks, he ended up picking fights with a lot of buffaloes in the area, resulting in the death of several cattle (!). As the incidents increased, the Pune Forest Department determined that it would be best to rescue and translocate the lonely bull to an area where he could live peacefully with others of his kind. The RESQ team, led by Tuhin Satarkar began planning the mission meticulously with Pune FD thereafter. The landscape was a challenging one to capture him using regular methods, and thus we planned to tranquillise him. Post-darting he walked into the tall sugarcane fields to hide but was tracked using the thermal drone. Once he sat down peacefully in the middle of the fields, the team closed in to carefully restrain him and give him the meds he needed to bounce back quickly. He was then guided into the truck, transported under medical supervision, and by the time he reached his release destination - he was up and about to make his big dash! The RESQ Team recently responded to a distress call regarding a barn owl which was trapped on a football turf area in Pune. Employing a telescopic pole, the team successfully rescued the owl from its predicament. Following a brief but thorough medical assessment, it was determined that the owl was in good health and fit for immediate release. Cobra survives to tell the tale of a missing tail! A local snake rescuer received a report of an Indian cobra found in a residential area in Pune. Upon arrival, the rescuer immediately noticed the cobra's severe injury and immediately contacted the RESQ team for assistance. With utmost care, the RESQ team safely transported the cobra to the RESQ Wildlife TTC for further evaluation and treatment. The cobra was diagnosed with a critically injured tail, necessitating the amputation of the affected area. The wound was dangerously close to its cloaca, and any delay or avoidance of the procedure would have rendered the cobra's chances of survival practically impossible. The snake exhibited a remarkable recovery following the surgery and responded exceedingly well to the subsequent treatment. Flap shell turtle, off the hook! An adult flap shell turtle was rescued by a local rescuer who found it lying inside an empty water canal. The turtle had a fishing hook lodged in its mouth and so it was immediately reported it to us. The turtle was then admitted to the RESQ Wildlife TTC where the RESQ Vets performed a surgery to remove the fishing hook.
