Gian Sagar Medical College & Hospital

On the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week, an event was organized at Gian Sagar Hospital on 01/08/2022, by the Department of Community Medicine, Gian Sagar Medical College, Ramnagar, Rajpura. The event was conducted with collaboration with department of OBG & Pediatrics. Dr. Ruchi Chaturvedi (Assistant Professor) highlighted the importance of the day and invited the experts to give more detailed talk on different aspects of breast feeding. Mr. Harnam Singh (President) gave welcome speech. Dr. J.P. Singh M.S. briefly introduced the gathering about World Breastfeeding Week celebration. Mr. Sachin Sahni & Mrs. Pooja Sahni graced the occasion and shared their experiences on breastfeeding practice. A total 100 lactating pregnant women, Housekeeping staff, Nursing Staff and Medical Students attended the event.
Dr Amarjit Singh (Prof & Head, Community Medicine) highlighted the theme of World Breastfeeding Week “Step up for Breast feeding: Educate and support” and highlighted the importance of exclusive Breastfeeding for six months & it should be continued up to 2 year and beyond so that proper growth and mental development take place. Prof. Dr. Manjeet Kaur Mohi HOD Gynae & OBG department discussed issue regarding breastfeeding practices among working women. Dr. Meenakshi Department of Pediatrics talked about dangers of artificial feeding.

“Teeyan” is a regional name of the festival of “TEEJ” which is celebrated in Punjab in the month of “Saavan” and marks the onset of Monsoon. The festival gathers Momentum in the Teeyan GIDHA. Sweet dishes (desserts) like kheer and Poorhay are also proposed. This festival is a joyful time for women and celebrates the beauty and essence of being a woman. Women celebrate this festival by wearing beautiful traditional attires and tying swings to the trees.
