Kulgam, May 07 (KNO): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir zone, V K Bhirdi Tuesday said the top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Basit Dar was among two terrorists killed in an encounter with security forces at Redwani Payeen in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday.

Talking to reporters at the encounter site at Redwani Payeen in southern district of Kulgam, the IGP Kashmir, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that on Monday afternoon, police received a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the area. “Police along with other security forces laid a cordon. Today morning, an intense encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces that lasted till afternoon,” the IGP said. He said that in the ensuing encounter, two terrorists were killed including the top commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba (TRF) outfit Basit Dar of Redwani, Kulgam.

“He was an A category terrorist carrying a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head. Basit was active since 2021. He was involved in over 18 cases including attacks on security forces and minority members in Srinagar and South Kashmir,” the IGP said.

He said that the operation concluded this afternoon but the search operation to clear the debris from explosives was still going on. Police sources said the identity of the second slain terrorist was being ascertained—(KNO)

Encounter breaks out in Pulwama

Srinagar, Apr 11 (KS) : Gunfight has started between Terrorists and security forces in Frassipora area of South Kashmir Pulwama district on Thursday.

A top police officer told news agency Kashmir scroll that a joint team of Police and Army launched a cordon and search operation in Frassipora Pulwama.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding Terrorists fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight,the officer said.

Meanwhile a top police officer also confirmed Kashmir Scroll about exchange of firing between Terrorists and security forces.

*Srinagar Police Registers FIR Against page Admin*

Srinagar, March 21, KDC: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a formal First Information Report (FIR) against a page admin, Mudasir Bashir Bhat, alias Mudasir Aziz.

According to an instant FIR copy accessed by Srinagar-based news-gathering agency Kashmir Dot Com, one Mudasir Bashir Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Khayam, Srinagar, has been booked vide FIR no. 8/2024 under sections 341 (Wrongful Restraint), 354 (Sexual Assault), 499 (Defamation), and section 506 (Criminal Intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to the FIR copy, the page admin was booked by Police station Rainawari after receiving a written complaint by a lady (name withheld), who runs an NGO by the name ‘Smile Foundation’.

11th standard question paper distributed to 12th class students

Srinagar, Mar 20 (KNO): Hundreds of 12th standard students on Wednesday were left to lurch as JKBOSE distributed 11th standard question paper to the students during examination.

The news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) spoke to some of the examination in-charges and candidates appearing in the annual regular exams of class 12th who expressed concern about the lackadaisical approach of the Board authorities.

One of the students said that the exam pattern of the Physical Education was entirely different as was shown and notified by the Board.

"Ironically, only two marks were taken from the 12th standard syllabus. Rest of the question paper of 12th standard was set from 11th standard syllabus," she said.

One of the examination in-charge said that students in the center were crying, while even a couple of students fainted.

Officials of JKBOSE said that they have postponed the exams and will issue a notification accordingly. "We got the information and we have decided to reschedule the exams. New dates will be issued soon," the official said—(KNO)

Srinagar, Mar 08 (KNO): The political landscape in Jammu & Kashmir witnessed a tumultuous turn on Friday as the People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) literally collapsed with National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party trading charges after the former ruled out conceding Anantnag- Rajouri Lok Sabha seat to the latter, citing its poor performance in 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The alliance between the National Conference (NC) and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) faced a severe setback over the coveted Anantnag- Rajouri seat Addressing a news conference here, National Conference Vice -President Omar Abdullah today declared that the NC would field candidates from all three seats in the Kashmir valley during the upcoming LS polls.

He stated that conceding the Anantnag seat to the PDP was out of the question. Omar Abdullah as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) justified the decision by citing the PDP's dismal performance in the 2019 LS polls, asserting that supporting PDP was illogical.

He expressed openness to offering the seat to Congress if they chose to contest against the BJP, but firmly ruled out accommodating the PDP. Accusing the PDP of breaching coalition principles and engaging in social media attacks against the NC, Omar emphasized that the alliance's primary purpose was to represent the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He criticized the “PDP's mudslinging tactics and stressed that responsibility for maintaining the alliance should not solely rest on the NC”.

In a swift response, PDP President Mehbooba M***i termed the NC's decision as a "setback to the hopes of the people of J&K".

She accused the National Conference of breaking PAGD unity, saying that Omar Abdullah has himself said that PDP is out of the alliance.

She asserted that the PAGD was formed to represent the core interests of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the need to prioritize the region's welfare over individual political gains.

When asked about Omar’s jibe of PDP standing 3rd during the 2019 LS elections from Anantnag seat, Mehbooba said that both Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah have lost elections in the past. “Does that mean they should not contest again? This logic is bizarre,” Mehbooba said—(KNO)
