Green Peas Usal with Rice
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 35 minutes
Total time:50 minutes
Yield: 4 Servings
Ingredients:
• 2 tbsp Oil
• 1tsp Cumin
• 4Green Chilies
• 5 cloves Garlic
• 1/2-inch Ginger
• A small bunch Fresh Coriander
• 1/3 cup Freshly grated Coconut
• 1 tsp Mustard seeds
• 3 Red chilies
• 1 sprig Curry leaves
• A pinch of Turmeric
• 1/4 cup Goda masala
• 1 bowl freshly shelled Green peas
• 1 tbsp Cumin Coriander powder
• Juice of 1 Lemon, optional
• Salt, as required
Directions:
• Add cumin, green chilies, garlic, ginger, fresh coriander, and freshly grated coconut to a mixer jar and make a fine paste.
• Add oil to a pan and heat.
• Add mustard seeds, red chilies, curry leaves turmeric and sauté until they splutter.
• Add the green paste to the pan and stir.
• Add goda masala and mix. Let the paste cook on low-medium heat until oil separates.
• Add freshly shelled green peas, coriander cumin powder to the paste and stir.
• Add water, salt and mix well. Cover the lid.
• Cook for 15-20 minutes. Keep stirring in between to avoid settling and burning.
• Take the pan off the heat, add lemon juice and combine well.
• Garnish with red chili and serve hot with Basmati rice or Jeera rice.
