Role Of Maps In Data Modelling

Maps are, in general, good sources for describing objects and their attributes. However, maps always represent particular models of the real world, and GIS should represent the real world, not the maps that depict it. For instance, ferry routes are often shown by dotted lines on maps, whereas in transport planning data models should form integral parts of a contiguous road network. As a rule of thumb, therefore, always look at a map as a data source, not as a data model.

TYPES OF SPATIAL ANALYSIS #5

Optimization techniques are normative in nature, designed to select ideal locations for objects given certain well-defined criteria. They are widely used in market research, in the package delivery industry, and in a host of other applications.

09/05/2021

Descriptive summaries attempt to capture the essence of a dataset in one or two numbers. They are the spatial equivalent of the descriptive statistics commonly used in statistical analysis, including the mean and standard deviation.

08/05/2021

Transformations are simple methods of spatial analysis that change datasets, combining them or comparing them to obtain new datasets, and eventually new insights. Transformations use simple geometric, arithmetic, or logical rules, and they include operations that convert raster data into vector data or vice versa. They may also create fields from collections of objects, or detect collections of objects in fields.

TYPES OF SPATIAL ANALYSIS #2:

Measurements are simple numerical values that describe aspects of geographic data. They include the measurement of simple properties of objects, like length, area, or shape, and of the relationships between pairs of objects, like distance or direction.

06/05/2021

Queries and reasoning are the most basic of analysis operations, in which the GIS is used to answer simple questions posed by the user. No changes occur in the database, and no new data are produced. The operations vary from simple and well-defined queries like ‘how many houses are found within 1 km of this point’, to vaguer questions like ‘which is the closest city to New Delhi going east’, where the response may depend on the system’s ability to understand what the user means by ‘going east’.

Planet has built a cloud-native processing infrastructure to take raw imagery and turn it into refined imagery, analysis ready data (ARD), and analytic feeds so that it can be easily incorporated into their customers and users workflows. But it would not be possible without a number of open source libraries, most importantly without GDAL.

This year, Planert is going to be an inaugural platinum sponsor of GDAL, as part of the ‘Sustainable GDAL’ initiative. It represents a major step in the maturity of the project, recognizing its place as critical infrastructure for the geospatial domain and the wider software world.

Introduction to Hyperspectral Imagery with Python - Geospatial Awareness Hub 30/04/2021

Hyperspectral remote sensing combines imaging and spectroscopy in a single system which often includes large data sets and require new processing methods.

Hyperspectral imagery is typically collected (and represented) as a data cube with spatial information collected in the X-Y plane, and spectral information represented in the Z-direction.

is a convergence of technological fields and traditional disciplines. GIS has been called an ‘enabling technology’ because of the potential it offers for the wide variety of disciplines that must deal with spatial data. Each related field provides some of the techniques which make up GIS. Many of these related fields emphasize data collection – GIS brings them together by emphasizing integration, modelling and analysis, as the integrating field, GIS often claims to be the science of information.

Here is some information about LIDAR. LIDAR, which stands for Light Detection and Ranging, is a remote sensing method that uses light in the form of a pulsed laser to measure ranges (variable distances) to the Earth. These light pulses—combined with other data recorded by the airborne system— generate precise, three-dimensional information about the shape of the Earth and its surface characteristics.

Greetings from GAH ,

This is a public webinar on SatSure Cygnus, our latest innovation that solves the cloud cover problem in agriculture monitoring, where we shall demonstrate on what SatSure Cygnus is, how it works, share our validation analysis and confidence information, and how to access the SatSure Cygnus data for insurance applications.

With the challenges of cloud cover in satellite remote sensing for agricultural monitoring, we are unable to make efficient decisions in our business and in turn face operational inefficiencies and monetary losses.

SatSure Cygnus, our latest groundbreaking product, is a high revisit frequency virtual constellation for agriculture monitoring that solves the persistent problem of cloud cover in satellite imagery. This one-of-a-kind product uses deep learning techniques and converts coarse resolution and SAR data to optical datasets at medium resolution with a 3-day data frequency.

This means its feasible to provide clear data even on heavy cloud cover days of monsoon along with the necessary corresponding crop data analysis.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) has completed the development of radar capable of producing extremely high-resolution images for a joint earth observation satellite mission with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa).

“NISAR will be the first satellite mission to use two different radar frequencies (L-band and S-band) to measure changes in our planet’s surface less than a centimeter across”, says NASA.
