*MIRACLE OF MANGROVES*
24.07.2023
Dear Friends,
Yesterday was an eye opener for most of us.
ICFR&E and WCTRE are addressing a major challenge in reintroducing Mangroves into Vizag's coastal ecosystem.
Once Vizag was full of mangroves in the port area and up to the walls of our airport and even beyond.
With rapid industrialization and leasing of port land to industry, our mangroves have almost vanished. We will understand the terrible loss of these plants when we face the next big storm
Worldwide mangroves are protected as a defense against storms and sea surges. They protect our coastal ecosystem and act as nurseries for nurturing and propogating coastal marine life.
I am filled with deep gratitude that some folks are in the forefront of protecting mangroves.
I pray that our city authorities become enlightened and protect our fragile coastal ecosystem.
Sohan Hatangadi.
